Im your host Liang Jing.M: Im Yuanxuan. I wish to grasp this opportunity to thank you all for your continued love and s

2、upport for us.F: And we hope you could give us your attention as always in the coming year.M: In todays programme, you will get on a train and start the years first trip with us to amusement parks. Our first stop will be Word Club, where you can see whatever fun youre gonna have in an amusement park

3、. At the second stop, Worlds Kaleidoscope, a variety of theme parks around the world will appear before you. After that, well go on to todays terminus Movie House. To keep it mysterious, Ill reveal the name of the movie later on in our journey. Now get you ticket, and lets go! Part One: Word ClubM:

4、Hey, where have you been on the New Years Eve? Got a party to live it up?F: Oh, it was a pity that Id been fully occupied with my reviews those days. But for the finals, Id rather have been hanging out with my friends and waiting for the arrival of my last New Year on this campus.M: I feel sorry for

5、 that. Anyway, it doesnt matter much. Lets just prepare a plan for this time next year, okay?F: Well, Id expect myself to be studying in Britain then. Quite probably Id take a train across the Channel and get off when it arrives in Paris. Id watch the countdown in a plaza, oh oh, maybe Id be more li

6、kely to go to the Disneyland to watch the parade and the firework show.M: It would be a memorable trip, thats for sure. I remember once I experienced a parade. Oh it suddenly occurs to me that theres another thing that

8、 you must be fond of.F: Um, I wonder what it could be. Its aM: It sings cheerfully when its on show.F: A fountain! Yeah, its a “musical fountain, “音樂噴泉. Passers-by tend to throw a coin into the fountain and make a wish when the fountain is not playing music.M: 當(dāng)音樂靜止,噴泉成了往來人群的許愿池。他們“throw a coin into

11、d and round, up and down, as if never stop.F: Perhaps thats why some say that the merry-go-around representseternity.M: Yeah. Similarly, the Ferris wheel is considered to stand for happiness. But I havent been in a Ferris wheel cabin yet. Instead, Im a frequent rider of roller coaster. Dare you ride

Some friends have already begun to ask me for presents.M: Let me see Almost every park would have some fancy little s

14、hops selling souvenirs. Ocean Park Hong KongM: Next station: Admiralty. Doors will open on the left. Alright, youre still with Yuanx

17、uan and Liang Jing in Crispy English. Were now transferring to a shuttle bus heading for Ocean Park Hong Kong.F: Yuanxuan, how long will it take to get there? I almost cant wait to see the spot.M: Be patient. It will just take some 20 minutes. Hey, why not we make use of the interval and give our au

18、diences a brief introduction of thepark?F: Its sure to be a good idea. As far as I know, Ocean Park is almost a household name. Its a marine-themed amusement park situated in the southern district of Hong Kong.M: Yes, the park is separated by a large mountain into two areas, the Summit/Headland and

19、the Waterfront/Lowland. Except for the shuttle bus we take, a 1.5 km-long cable car system can also reach the areas.F: Gorgeous!M: Yeah, imagine a virtual trip through the Ocean Park from the Lowland section to the Headland section: first, the Middle Kingdom. At the Middle Kingdom, tourists will see

20、 many ancient structures such as temples, pavilions and streets. Walking through the Middle Kingdom, you come upon the Hong Kong Jockey Giant Panda Habitat.F: I know it. Thats home to four lovely pandas. All are very popular and appear contented in their lush green environs.M: Correction! And beyond

21、 the Panda Habitat we enter the “Dinosaur Now and Then exhibits, the Dolphin Breeding Center, and other wildlife exhibits which emphasise the importance of protecting endangered species.F: Then whats in the Headland section?M: There is the expanse of the marvelous maritime landscape comprised of Ato

22、ll Reef, Shark Aquarium, Ocean Theatre, and Ocean Park Tower.F: Wait Ocean Theatre? A theatre built in the ocean or?M: Aha, actually it is an open-air theatre in which dolphins and sea lions stage a wonderful performance under the guidance of trainers in a huge pond. Its the most famous and popular

23、spot in the whole park.F: Got it. Ocean Park is also famous for its many thrilling rides. Can you tell us more about the rides?M: Sure. The theme park currently has 35 rides. The latest ride is the Abyss Turbo Drop, which moves vertically on a 185-foot tower. As the platform slowly ascends, riders h

24、ave an overall view of the ocean park. The platform stops briefly at the top before it drops abruptly, surprising even the prepared.F: And Ive heard that the park also has the longest roller coaster in Hong Kong with a maximum speed of 77 kilometres per hour.M: Not only that! Ocean Park Hong Kong al

25、so operates observatories, well developed laboratories, an education department and a Whales and Dolphins Fund.F: Thats great. I bet after visiting the park, tourists can gain more knowledge about marine animals. It must have contributed a lot to raising awareness of protecting the environment and e

26、ndangered species.M: Absolutely. When it comes to environmental protection, one thinks of Copenhagen because the United Nations Climate Change Conference just drew the curtain there.F: Yeah, were worried about the global climate change. But dont let Copenhagen take the. Anyway, lets look at a more i

27、nteresting Copenhagen at the Tivoli Gardens.2. Tivoli Gardens in CopenhagenM: Gardens? Arent we talkingabout amusement parks?F: Aha, although Tivoli Gardens do enjoy beautiful flower gardens, it is actually more an amusement park than a grass, tree and grove garden. It includes a variety of attracti

28、ons: buildings in the exotic style of an imaginary Orient: a theatre, band stands, restaurants and cafes, and mechanical amusement rides.M: Im extremely interested in the floral part. You know, Copenhagen is at such high latitude.F: Yes. Tivolis flower beds are kept colorful throughout the year, but

29、 the best time to visit the park is late spring, when 115,000 flowers bloom throughout the park. You can walk through various landscapes, almost like whats in a botanical garden.M: Wow, sounds wonderful. Just now, you said, there are buildings in exotic style? Im wondering how it looks.F: I mean the

30、 Pantomime Theatre built in Chinese style. Its noted for its mechanical front curtain that takes five men to operate and unfolds like a peacocks tail. Besides, there are also Chinese pagodas built near the Tivoli Lake.M: Excellent combination of Eastern and Western culture!F: On certain evenings, sp

31、ecially designed fireworks could be seen reflected in Tivolis lake. It could be a very spectacular night view.M: Definitely. And I remember youve mentioned the theatre. Is there anything special?F: Yeah! You remind me of one of the most fascinating attractions in the garden. In fact, Tivoli Gardens

32、also serve as a venue for various performing arts and as an active part of the cultural scene in Copenhagen.M: I love that! You know, art, culture and stuff like that.F: Me, too. The garden boasts the Tivoli Concert Hall, a classical concert hall featuring concerts with some of the largest names in

33、international classical music.M: Classical music? Thats an acquired taste. Anything for the youth, like live music?F: Yeah. During the warmer summer months, Tivoli also features a live music series.M: Sounds interesting. But, as youve mentioned the young people, I feel that Disneyland is something t

34、hey can never miss out.3. Tokyo DisneylandF: You can say so. Since you are apparently in favor of Disneyland, let me give you a quiz first. We all know that the first and most famous Disneyland Park is in California. But do you know where the first Disneyland outside the United States was?M: Let me

35、see, Tokyo?F: Thats it! Tokyo Disneyland is a 115-acre theme park at Tokyo Disney Resort, the first Disney Park built outside the United States.M: Yes, but whats interesting is that Tokyo Disneyland and its companion park, Tokyo Disney Sea are the only Disney parks not owned by the Walt Disney Compa

36、ny.F: Although its owned by the Oriental Land Company, it was constructed in the same style as Disneyland in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida.M: That means we can expect most of the classic themed areas in it.F: Exactly. There are seven themed areas in Tokyo Disneyland, complementing each oth

37、er yet unique in style: World Bazaar, the four classic Disney lands: Adventureland, Westernland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, and two mini lands, Critter Country and Mickeys Toontown.M: World Bazaar? Whats that?F: Instead of the Main Street, USA, an area commonly shared by all other Disneyland-styl

38、e parks around the world, Tokyo Disneyland calls its entry corridor “World Bazaar. The most distinctive aspect of World Bazaar is that it resembles the Crystal Palace, built in part to account for the frequent rain and snow in the region. Its entirely under a Victorian style glass and wrought iron r

39、oof.M: It must be wonderful. Im also interested in the area Westernland. Is it different from the traditional Frontierland in Disneyland, California?F: Yeah, the name is different. But it carries a Wild West style similar to Frontierland.M: I see. Its every bit as “Disney as we might expect.F: Of co

40、urse, but remember: located in Japan, it has its own characteristics.M: Really? Explain it to us.F: The famous customer service quality that Disney so perfectly delivers is almost automatically delivered everywhere in Japan. Its part of Japanese culture. Where else in the world do shop assistants no

41、t only treat you like the President, but actually bow to you too!M: Also, it isnt the Japanese way to walk around and eat at the same time, so there are fewer snackplaces than in the other parks. Nor is it the Japanese way to smoke while youre walking around the park, so there are designated smoking
