1、大學(xué)英語自選讀物(精彩篇)年月大學(xué)英語教學(xué)改革擴展項目課題組1前 言親愛的同學(xué)們,這本閱讀材料是我們學(xué)校2005年的一個“大學(xué)英語教改”課題成果。它收集了當(dāng)時參加課題實驗的04級同學(xué)們(大一第二學(xué)期)自選的29篇精彩文章,字數(shù)約在1萬1千字左右,涵蓋愛情、工作、生活、人物等多種主題。我們最初讓同學(xué)去自由選材,目的是了解同學(xué)們平時閱讀的喜好、習(xí)慣以及可接受的閱讀難度。我們共收集到了140多篇故事和小短文。這些故事和小短文讓我們進一步了解了這些同學(xué)們的學(xué)習(xí),為我們的英語教學(xué)提供了豐富的信息?,F(xiàn)在,我們將其中的一小部分篩選出來,也讓你們了解他們在讀什么,讀多大難度的文章,及他們都是在哪兒獲得這些閱讀

2、材料的。我們根據(jù)材料的內(nèi)容,編排了一些簡單的問題,希望大家在閱讀之后,并嘗試回答每篇后的問題(后附答案)。我們認為這些簡易有趣的讀物對大家很快地增加詞匯量和閱讀速度有幫助。由于篇幅的關(guān)系,我們只收集部分同學(xué)的選文。另外,還因時間的關(guān)系,我們無法對材料中沒有標注的同學(xué)姓名和材料出處一一核實,敬請原諒。我們感謝范永蘭、王海蘭、張玲梅和喻萍四位老師的辛勤工作。你們生活在一個英語學(xué)習(xí)的大好的環(huán)境中,周圍的英語資源非常豐富。這些資料雖然有用,但也龐雜紛擾,容易讓人迷失。我們希望這本閱讀材料能為你起到引領(lǐng)的作用,使大家最終能獲得英語學(xué)習(xí)的巨大成功。學(xué)習(xí)快樂!大學(xué)英語改革擴展項目課題組 章少泉,李勇忠,唐雄

3、英2Part I StoryWe used to be crazy about stories when we were little kids, and I believe we will always like reading them even now we are grown up. In fact, stories are what make our lives interesting and inspiring.31 Things are not what they seemTwo traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the

4、 home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the guest room. Instead the angels were given a space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the old

5、er angel replied, Things arent always what they seem.The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had, the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have good night s rest. When the sun

6、came up the next morning, the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their only income, lay dead in the field.The younger angel was very angry and asked the older angel, How could this happen? Why did you not watch out for the cow? While trying to open the safe, his ha

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets st
