It is designed to give our Ss speaki

2、ng skill needed in their major study and their future careers. The main emphasis is on helping Ss learn to communicate orally and effectively, making real progress with the language and building confidence to perform tasks that have a positive and professional impact on an English speaking audience.

3、 Also the course is designed to help our Ss to acquire the speaking skill needed in their preparation for the ongoing TOFEL assessment. By extension, the course also aims to enrich students integrated linguistic skills at the level of overall thought and expression. The contents are based on certain

4、 textbooks, which could provide Ss with a good idea of what they might cover, and include typical themes, grammar and vocabulary fields. They are flexible rather than prescriptive, and our teachers should adapt the course syllabus to the level, aims and interests of the class. These courses are at f

5、our different levels: Term 1 (from Low Beginning to Low Intermediate), Term 2 (from Intermediate to High Beginning), Term 3 (from Intermediate to Advanced) and Term 4 (Advanced and Academic). Since the Ss speaking skills are basic and limited, the emphasis is on activating the Ss desire to improve t

6、heir spoken communication skills in English and give a valuable boost for their self-confidence. Students are given extensive practice in both guided and free conversation as a means to develop oral fluency. Some of the subtopics of oral communication include organizing a brief speech, speaking spon

7、taneously, and developing good speech habits such as using gestures effectively, speaking in complete sentences, not backtracking, and avoiding unconscious and counterproductive vocal mannerisms. The course concentrates on coaching student creativity and building confidence to perform tasks that hav

Course Objectives & Learning OutcomesThe most important goal in this course is to activ

17、ate the spoken English language. By the end of the semester, Ss will improve their speaking ability and be able to§ enhance their oral skills through class discussions, presentations and speeches;§ engage in short discussions and dialogues with correct pronunciation;§ polish their ora

18、l skills through in-class discussions, presentations and speeches;§ use English to express their ideas.2. Content: The content is generally based on the oral textbook Inside Out book I, including some target cultural introduction given by teachers themselves. The lessons will involve discussion

19、s around a range of topics, 'small talk' conversation skills. The main focus for teachers in your classroom teaching should be put on the speaking with the reference of pictures, charts, diagrams, questions, pair work and readings or themed articles for discussion provided by the book. Of co

20、urse they are optional depending on the need and activities. And some exercises of the associated grammar, vocabulary, reading and tests relating to spoken English should or could be used as homework. The checked homework and feedbacks should be given to the Ss timely.3. The Main Talking Topics &

Course Requirements and GradingDuring th

24、e semester, Ss will complete several assignments. Theyll also be graded on attendance and class participation, which will be based on intelligent discussion in class. Since one year later all the Ss will be assessed by TOFEL, well work at an accelerated pace. Keep up with them. If you begin to fall

25、behind, it will affect your final grades. If you work consistently, youll enjoy the work more, youll learn more, and youll speak better. I will accept not excuses for skipping the presentation and assignments.2. Assessment schemeDescription:Students are expected to attend class regularly and partici

26、pate actively. In addition to regular, active participation and doing homework, students must engage in some more formal oral activities such as oral presentation of assignment, delivering spontaneous speeches etc. Students will normally complete three assignments. And there will be after class prac

27、tice or homework. At the end of the term Ss will receive a final oral examination. 3.
