36、s usual.Step2 Finish Ex II, Ex III情態(tài)動詞(Modal Verbs) 英語中情態(tài)動詞與助動詞不同,助動詞本身沒有詞義,而情態(tài)動詞則有自己的詞義,表示說話人對所說動作的看法,認(rèn)為可能、應(yīng)該或必要等。情態(tài)動詞有如下詞法和句法特征: 1.情態(tài)動詞在句子中必須與另一動詞共同構(gòu)成謂語。 2.情態(tài)動詞(ought除外)后面只能接不帶to的動詞不定式。 3.情態(tài)動詞沒有人稱、數(shù)的變化。 4.情態(tài)動詞在時態(tài)形式上的變化并不一定是時間變化的標(biāo)志。在很多情況下,情態(tài)動詞的現(xiàn)在形式和過去形式都可以用來表示現(xiàn)在時間、過去時間或?qū)頃r間。英語中的情態(tài)動詞主要有:can/could mu

37、st shall/should ought (to)may/might need will/would dare1.can/could可以用來表示能力、許可和可能。如:Mary Black can speak five languages. 能力瑪莉布萊克會講五種語言。You can not keep the library book(s) for more than three months. 許可圖書館的書你最多能借三個月。The theater can seat 2500 people. 可能這個劇院可容納2500人。 在下面的句子中could和can沒有時間上的差異,都有“愿意”的含義

38、,相當(dāng)于will,只是could在語氣上較為委婉。 Can/Could you pass me the salt? 你能把鹽遞給我嗎?Excuse me, could you tell me the time? 勞駕,請問幾點(diǎn)了?2.may/might表示許可、可能。如: You may take this seat if you like. 如果你愿意可以坐在這兒。 You may lose your way if you dont take a map. 如果不帶地圖你會迷路的。 The news may,or may not,be true. 這消息可能是真的,也可能不是真的。 現(xiàn)代英語

39、中might已很少用來表示may的過去時,而多用于委婉語氣。試比較:He may not go. 他不可以去。 He might not go. 他也許不會去。 如要表示過去的不許可,我們可以說He was not allowed to go.3.must表示必須要做的事。如: I must go now, or Ill be late. 我必須得走了,否則就晚了。 Tell him he must be back before ten oclock. 告訴他十點(diǎn)以前必須回來。在肯定句中must還可以表示一種揣測。This must be your room. 這一定是你的房間。 You mu

40、st have left your handbag on the bus. 你一定是把包掉在公共汽車上了。must not表示不允許某人做某事。(禁止)如: You mustnt talk like that. 你不能像那樣講話。 You must not keep us all waiting. 你不能讓我們都等著。在回答must引起的問題時,如果是否定的答復(fù),不一定用mustnt,如A:Must you leave so soon?你非得這么快就走嗎? B:No,I dont have to go yet.不,我還不急著走。 A:Must I come tomorrow?我明天一定要來嗎?

41、 B:No.You neednt.不,你可以不來(或:沒必要來)。4.need作為情態(tài)動詞表示“需要”,主要用于否定句和疑問句。如: We neednt hurry. 我們不用急。You neednt have said that when he asked. 他問(你的)時候你沒必要說那話。(可已經(jīng)說了) Need we work late tonight? 我們今晚得干到很晚嗎?除了作情態(tài)動詞,need還可以用作及物動詞。如: Tom needs a new car. 湯姆需要一輛新車。 It needs to be done carefully. 這事兒要小心辦。鞏固Give them
