Lawrence spent his formative years in the coal mining town of Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.His early careerHis career as a professional a

4、uthor began in earnest.Shortly after the final proofs of his first published novel, The White Peacock, appeared in 1910. Lawrences mother died of cancer. The young man was devastated.Then he wrote Sons and Lovers.ExileAfter the traumatic experience of the war years, Lawrence began what he termed his

5、 savage pilgrimage, a time of voluntary exile.Lawrence abandoned Britain in November 1919 and headed south. From Sicily he made brief excursions to Sardinia, Monte Cassino, Malta, Northern Italy, Austria and Southern Germany. Many of these places appeared in his writings. His marriage In 1910, he br
