Criticism from coaches, parents, and other teammates, as well as pressure to win can create too much anxiety or stress for young athletes. Stress can be physical, emotional, or psychological and research has indicated that it can lead to burnout. Burnout has been described as dropping or quitting of an activity that was at one time enjoyable. The early years of development are critical years for learning about oneself. The sport setting is one where valuable experiences can take place. Young athletes can, for example, learn how to cooperate with others, make friends, and gain other social skills that will be used throughout their lives. Coaches and parents should be aware, at all times, that their feedback to youngsters can greatly affect their children. Youngsters may take their parents and coaches criticisms to heart and find a fault in themselves.Coaches and parents should also be cautious that youth sport participation does not become work for children. The outcome of the game should not be more important than the process of learning the sport and other life lessons. In todays youth sport setting young athletes may be worrying more about who will win instead of enjoying themselves and the sport. Following a game many parents and coaches focus on the outcome and find fault with youngsters performances. Positive support should be provided regardless of the outcome. Research indicates that positive support motivates (激發(fā)) and has a greater effect on learning than criticism. Again, criticism can create high levels of stress, which can lead to burnout. 1An effective way to prevent the burnout of young athletes is to _.Amake sports less competitiveBincrease their sense of successCreduce their mental stressDmake sports more challenging解析:選C細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第一段的“Stress can be physical, emotional, or psychological and research has indicated that it can lead to burnout.” 2According to the passage, sport is positive for young people in that it_.Acan help them learn more about societyBenables them to find faults in themselvesCcan provide them with valuable experiencesDteaches them how to set realistic goals for themselves解析:選C細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第二段的“The sport setting is one where valuable experiences can take place.” 3Many coaches and parents are in the habit of criticizing young athletes _.Abelieving that criticism is beneficial to their early developmentBwithout realizing criticism may destroy their selfconfidenceCin order to make them remember lifes lessonsDso as to put more pressure on them解析:選B推理判斷題。 4The authors purpose in writing the passage is to _.Ateach young athletes how to avoid burnoutBpersuade young children not to worry about criticismCstress the importance of positive support to childrenDdiscuss the skill of combining criticism with encouragement解析:選C寫(xiě)作目的題。 B“No matter how hard you train, if you dont sleep enough, you will lose.” My brother, who just won the South German bodybuilding championship last Sunday, told me. Like food and exercise, sleep is a major pillar (支柱) of your health. In almost anything you can think of weight loss, building muscle, learning something new, preparing for a test or a speech, flying a plane the person who sleeps enough will perform at their highest levels and get the best results. In todays world, balancing your work life and your health is harder than ever. “Five hours of sleep is enough for me.” I often hear. Its a lie. How do I know? Well, I tired it for six months, then I broke down. I thought that the less I slept, the more time I had to create. But soon, I found that having less sleep also meant its easier to be distracted (分心) and stressed. I felt worse every week.“Sleep more or take pills. Your choice,” the doctor told me. I did. It worked. By sleeping more, I became more productive, I could focus better, and my mood improved a lot. What I learned is that the first thing you need to become happier, healthier, smarter, stronger and more creative is not more exercise. You need more sleep first. One out of three people nods off while driving. 100,000 of preventable accidents happen in the US. each year. If youre sleepy while driving to work, youll drive as if you had three beers for breakfast. Dont be that person. If you feel that you are sleepdeprived (睡眠不足的), this is what you could do today:Take a 30minute nap during the day.Go to bed 30 minutes earlier.Get up 30 minutes later.Even if you dont fall asleep during a 30minute nap, you still get some rest. For 20 years of my life Ive never taken a nap except when I was a baby. It takes practice. Some people pride themselves with how less sleep they need. Maybe its true. Maybe not. Rather pride yourself with being healthy, rested, refreshed and happy. 5If you want to perform the best in anything, you should _.Aget enough sleep Bhave hard trainingClearn something new Ddo more exercise解析:選A推理判斷題。 6What is the writers attitude towards the saying “Five hours of sleep is enough”?AEnthusiastic. BSupportive.CCritical. DUnclear. 7What made the writer feel better at last?AFive hours of sleep.BMore time for sleep.CTaking pills.DImproving his mood. 8What should drivers do to prevent some accidents from happening?AHaving three beers for breakfast.BNever driving to work by themselves.CTaking a short nap to get some rest.DGoing to bed 30 minutes later. 根據(jù)“this is what you could do today:Take a 30minute nap during the day”可知,開(kāi)車(chē)打盹導(dǎo)致大量的交通事故發(fā)生,白天小睡30分鐘是解決此問(wèn)題的有效方法之一。. In my experience working with children, selfconfidence or a lack of confidence can have a big effect on whether people are able to overcome the challenges they are experiencing, such as fear and anxiety as well as other concerns. When children build their selfconfidence, they become more comfortable with themselves. _1_Create a pretend play.Allow a child to create a puppet show (木偶表演) to express the difficulty he is having. For instance, if the child is afraid of the dark, have him come up with a puppet show about a puppet that is afraid of the dark. _2_ If the child doesnt seem to be coming up with a way to help the puppet overcome its fear, present some questions to see if he can come up with a way to help the puppet._3_Many children with low selfconfidence display behaviors that suggest they do not believe they can do things on their own. To encourage independence, when a situation appears in which the child states he cant do it or wants you to do it for him, encourage the child to do the activity. _4_Raise selfawareness.Helping children to become more aware of who they are can help build selfconfidence. _5_ They may say “I dont know a lot” or may hesitate when you ask them questions about themselves. In addition, help the children to accept their own answers. To do this, be supportive of the answers they provide by making sure not to discount or make them feel like they need to change their answers in any way.ADeve
