TOPRA GD 1224 1228 Single slotter Unit 1 Single Slotter unit 1 Overview Single slotter unit processes the printed paperboard It performs creasing trimming slotting glue lap cutting and punching The basic parts of the slotter unit include creasing shaft creasing wheel slotting head wheel shaft cutting tool upper and low push plates drive lead screw nut prick gear linear guide track driving gear punching module motor electric control components etc which form a relatively complete and independent work units The single slotter unit is provided with one pair of slotting shaft and five pairs of head seats which are used in trimming slotting and glue lap cutting To assure completely lap cutting and durability of the cutting tools a kind of steel to steel or steel to PU glue lap cutting system with flexible flap cutting mechanism The glue lap cutting knife can be changed according to paperboard grade for example 3 ply 5 ply 7 ply All cutting tools are made of high grade steel feature high hardness and durability and produce very good trimming slotting and glue lap cutting results The transverse movement of the 5 pairs head seats of the machine are driven through ten pairs of lead screw nuts or ball screw nuts The motor with brake function drives the idler shaft through the coupling drives the screw nut through prick gear and drives the 5 pairs of push plates and head seats to move along the linear guide tracks agilely and accurately Owing to the limit travel switch on the push plates as two head seats move to together or head seat travel to the limit position the motor will stop work and push plate can t move forward by which it avoids the lead screw and head seat be damaged The upper and low head seats are driven together through idler shaft so they aim at each other during movement thus prolonging the service life of the cutting tools The self locking function of the brake and screw of the motor assures fixed transverse position of the head seats after adjustment The movement of pre creasing wheel creasing wheel and slotting seats is controlled by PLC and touch screen The slotting tools are made of steel alloy ground and heat treated and features sharp edge and high precision The slotting head seat clearance is adjusted through touch screen and is set digitally The slotting unit is provided with pre creasing wheel and the pre creased paperboards are not easily damaged The pre creasing wheel clearance is adjusted through touch screen and is set digitally The upper creasing wheel is coated with PU and it will not damage the paperboard the creasing wheel clearance is adjusted through the touch screen and is set digitally The slotting register and box height adjustment adopt planetary gear structure and PLC proface control 360 incrementing electric register with digital read out and incremental adjustment The slotting head seat adopts claw type structure and the seats can enter into each other so that the structure is more compact and slotting range is more wide TOPRA GD 1224 1228 Single slotter Unit 2 The slotting unit may be provided with hand hole punching module seat The machine can store 400 orders and so it is easy and quick to set and change sizes Note Before running machine check whether or not the slotting and trimming blades move and confirm the upper and lower blades aim at each other Single Slotter unit final machine can be re started until the button recovered by turning it clockwise 2 2 2 AC24V Power indicator If indicator is on that means the power supply is normal vice versa 2 2 3 Unit movement control button If this button isn t pressed down the units are closed Once the two buttons are pressed at the same time the slotter unit will move towards the die cutter unit Notes Only the slotter unit printer unit and feeder unit are interlocked These buttons can be in function As the slotter unit and printer unit are open press this button it can t TOPRA GD 1224 1228 Single slotter Unit 9 move For safety the alarm will flash and ring when the unit is moving 2 2 4 Units interlock Used for units open and close Turn switch to right the pneumatic units interlock device is open and now it can open all registers setting Press button all units register decrease at the same time Press button all units register increase at the same time 2 3 5 Printing register button1 6 First press the register button as left picture then press button on the control panel the register will decrease Press button on the control panel the register will increase Prior to the register adjustment it must have the machine to assure the operator s safety It must press this button prior to entering into the machine Because through that the peddle switch can be in function 3 Operation Adjustment Instructions Before processing the slotter unit operation please get familiar with the following contents read the instructions on operation of the electric and refer to the relevant contents about operation of the control panel 3 1 Slotting head TOPRA GD 1224 1228 Single slotter Unit 18 The distance between the lead slotting blade fixed and the trailing blade movable blade is called carton height the position of the lead slotting blade fixed during the slotting is called register Register and carton height are controlled by PLC With a standard slotting head 300mm long arc and 90 degree angle 635mm depth carton can be produced Therefore most cartons for common purposes can be made by standard slotting head 3 2 Glue lap cutting knife Stitching knife Stitching knife left Stitching knife right 1 Knife 2 Slide block 3 Spring 45 Gland bush 5 Bolt Stitching knife is a device used to cut the stitch flap or glue lap for cartons There are left stitching knife and right stitching knife The left and right stitching knives are mounted on the stitching bosses The stitching knife is installed together with the front slotting head fixed while the right stitching knife with the rear angle slotting head movable Stitch flap are made with the pressure produced between the stitching knife and the bottom ring The pressure of the stitching knife can be adjusted The blade base could be removed from the TOPRA GD 1224 1228 Single slotter Unit 19 stitching knife base and a hex wrench with the subtense of 6mm can be applied to turn the cover shown in the picture above Turn clockwise to increase the pressure and counter clockwise to decrease the pressure of the stitching knife Meanwhile the blade can be changed to paperboard thickness and the blade itself worn One type blade is used for 3 or 5 ply paperboards and another type is used for 7 ply paperboards 3 3 Trimming knife Trimming knife 1 Male trimming knife 2 Distance ring 3 Female trimming knife 4 Distance ring Trimming knife which is composed of male and female knives fixed on the upper and lower seat is applied to trim the redundant edge D shown in the carton box layout While operating the knife edges must be sharp and aim at each other Note You are not expected to increase the pressure between the female and male trimming knife What attention must be paid to is that pressure between the female and male trimming knives shall not be excessively increased when the trimming effect isn t so good Excessive pressure will make the knives overheated thus making the knives worn or distorted 3 4 Adjustment of register carton height transverse movement and relating clearance Register adjustment TOPRA GD 1224 1228 Single slotter Unit 20 ABCD HeightDepth Layout Middle knife Carton height adjustment Head A B C D and middle head lateral movement Slotting pre creasing and creasing clearance adjustment 3 4 1 Register adjustment Press zeroing button to make the leading knife to the zero position and then use either of the following two methods to adjust register slotting depth Input the value of slotting register on the touch screen and the data precision can be in range of 0 1mm Press Enter button and the seats of Head A B and C and the middle head automatically move to the positions according to the set register values Press the slotting register control button on Control Panel 2 or 3 of the slotter and the register adjusting will be motorized The value will be displayed on the touch screen 3 4 2 Adjustment of carton height Adjust the carton height after the slotting register is adjusted There are also two ways to adjust carton height Input the value of carton height on the touch screen and the data precision can be in 0 1mm range Press Enter button and the lead and trail slotting Heads automatically move to the positions according to the set values Press the carton height control button on Control Panel 2 or 3 of the slotter unit to adjust the carton height and the value will be displayed on the touch screen It is better to adjust by jogging Usually the set value of carton height can be smaller than the height of carton by about 2mm 3 4 3 Transverse adjustment of Head A B C and D and the middle head During the transverse adjustment of Head A B C and D and the middle Head the upper and lower Head seats run together and the male knife must aim at the female knife Input the values of Head position on the touch screen and the data precision can be in 0 10mm range TOPRA GD 1224 1228 Single slotter Unit 21 Press Enter button and machine will automatically arrange the positions of all knives according to the set values Press the relevant control button on Control Panel 2 of the slotter unit to control the movement of all knives and the value will be displayed on the gauge on the beam 1 case 1mm The relevant data will also be displayed on the touch screen 3 4 4 Adjustment of slotting pre creasing and creasing clearances The slotting clearance is adjusted to the cardboard thickness Firstly you are expected to align the scale lines on the gland bush eccentric bearing and the side frame and the gap is 6 1mm For adjustment you can press or to set the value of clearance Also you can input the values directly and its precision could reach 0 1mm When the clearance values are set the clearance adjustment motor starts to run till the actual clearance values reach the set values The braking function of the motor is used to keep the adjusted clearance and the clearance values can be read off the dial The clearance adjustment includes 3 kinds The three clearances can be adjusted separately or together 3 4 4 1 Adjustment of female and male slotting head seat clearance Before boards trimming slotting and stitching the clearance value for Head A B C and D and the middle Head seat must be set first The clearance will directly affect the final working quality of the slotter unit The clearance is variable in the range of 0 12mm In normal cases the clearance should be 0 3mm smaller than the cardboard According to the experiences slotting clearance h can be 1 4 4 5mm for three ply cardboards A B C and E 3 5 6 5mm for five ply cardboards AB BC and EB 6mm for seven ply cardboards which need to change stitching knife TOPRA GD 1224 1228 Single slotter Unit 22 3 4 4 2 Adjustment of upper and lower pre creasing wheels The pre creasing wheel is composed of lower creasing wheel and upper rubber wheel Head B and C and the middle Head are all provided with pre creasing wheels Pre creasing is to press the corrugated cardboards destroy the corrugating tip It can also be used as guide wheel The clearance value b is variable in range of 0 12mm and can be read on the pre creasing clearance dial In normal cases the clearance value is smaller than the cardboard thickness by about 0 3 0 5mm According to experiences pre creasing clearance b can be 1 8 4 7mm for three ply cardboards A B C and E 3 7 6 7mm for five ply cardboards AB BC and EB and 8mm for seven ply cardboards 3 4 4 3 Adjustment of clearance between upper and lower creasing wheels The creasing wheel is composed of lower V type creasing wheel and upper rubber wheel Head A B C and the middle head are all provided with creasing wheels Creasing wheel is to press the corrugated cardboards and make the folding lines clear for the following process Clearance value c is variable in the range of 0 12mm and it can be read on the main touch screen In normal cases the clearance value is smaller than the cardboard thickness by about 0 5 1 5mm According to the relevant production experiences the pressing clearance c can be 1 5 3 5mm for three ply cardboards A B C and E 2 5 4 7mm for five ply cardboards AB BC and EB and 6mm for seven ply cardboards When the pressing operation Excessive pressing line clearance will affect the precisions of products Therefore it is necessary to make sure the pressing knife isn t damaged and that certain moisture of the cardboard surface shall be maintained Of course the end users may choose the most suitable clearance according to demand so as to achieve the most ideal product quality 3 5 Adjustment of anti collision device Both the carton height adjustment device and lateral movement device of push plate are equipped with mechanical anti collision device in addition The latter one is also equipped with software anti collision device For details please refer to the electric part The device is mainly to protect the cutting tools against any damage during carton height adjustment and protect the lead screw against any damage during the lateral movement of the push plate And so before running the machine we must adjust the torque of the limiter of the anti collision device which shall be in the range of 3 5 15 2kg m The adjusting way is to fasten or loosen the nuts of the torque limiter The adjusting principle the motor drives the slotting head and push plate moving through output shaft limiter synchronous pulley and gear train When the movable head or push plate moves to the limited position the motor still runs but the torque limiter starts to slide The synchronous pulley 1
