If和 whetherif不能替換whether的5種情況 1.正式文體中，句中有or not 時 2.引起主語，表語，同位語從句時 3.作介詞賓語時 4.放不定式前，與不定式組成詞組時 5.作discuss等詞的賓語時 以上是if和whether表示是否之意的區(qū)別，此外，if還有加入的意思，引起條件狀語從句；而whether另有不管無論之意，引起讓步狀語從句whether與if作“是否”講，在用法上有相同之處，也有不同之處。 一、相同之處。 1.whether和if都能引導賓語從句，常置于see,ask,learn,tell,wonder,doubt,find out等動詞之后。 如：He asked me whether/is I could help him. I want to know whether/if he lives there. 2.whether和if都可用it作形式主語從句中。如： its uncertain whether/if hell come this evening. 3.在be uncertain/doubtful之后，常用whether引導賓語從句，有時也可以用if，如： We are uncertain whether/if Mary will come. 二、不同之處。 1.whether可置于句首引導主語從句，而if不能。如： _the 2000 Olympic Games will be in Beijing is not known yet. A.whether B.If C.Whether D.That 答案是C。 2.whether可用在介詞之后，引導賓語從句，而If則不能。如： Success depends on whether we make evough effort. 3.whether可引導表語從句，if則不能。如： The puestion is whether it is not worthdoing. 4.在名詞之后引導同位語從句時，用whether而不用if。如： The puestion whether the students answered correctly should be decided by the teacher. 5.whether后可接不定式，而if不能。如： Please tell us whether to go or stay here. 6.在有些動詞（如discuss）之后，只能用whether，而不用if引導賓語從句。如： We discussed whether we should close the shop. 7.在引導否定概念in賓語從句時，只能用if，而不用whether.如：he asked me if I hadnt finished my work.whether和if都可以引導賓語從句，表示“是否”，在口語或間接引語中兩者可以互換使用。如： I wonder if / whether I can get some advice from you. Ask him whether / if he can come. 但在有些情況下，whether和if的用法有一定區(qū)別。 1. whether引導的從句常可以與連詞or或or not直接連用，而if一般不能。如： 正： Let me know whether you can come or not. 誤： Let me know if you can come or not. 2. 當賓語從句提到句首時，只能用whether引導，而不能用if。如： 正： Whether it is true or not, I cant tell. 誤： If it is true or not, I cant tell. 3. whether可以引導帶to的不定式，if則不能。如： 正： I dont know whether to accept or refuse. 誤： I dont know if to accept or refuse. 4. whether及其引導的成分可放于介詞之后，作介詞的賓語，但if不能。如： 正： I worry about whether I hurt her feelings. 誤： I worry about if I hurt her feelings. 5. whether可以引導從句，作主語、表語或同位語，而if不能。如： 正： It was uncertain whether he would come. 誤： It was uncertain if he would come. 正： His first question was whether Tom had arrived yet. 誤： His first question was if Tom had arrived yet. 正： We must consider the question whether we will take these measures. 誤： We must consider the question if we will take these measures.1、 在動詞不定式之前只能用whether 。如： 例8 I cant decide whether to stay. 我不能決定是否留下。 2、 在whether or not 的固定搭配中。如： 例9 I want to know whether its good news or not . 我想知道是否是好消息。 3 、在介詞后，只能用whether。如： 例10 His father is worried about whether he lose his work . 他的父親擔心是否會失去工作。 4、賓語從句放在句首表示強調(diào)時，只能用whether 。如： Whether this is true or not, I really dont know. 這是否真的，我真的不知道。（例11 Whether they can finish the work on time is still a problem . 他們是否能準時完成這項工作還是個問題。此例為主語從句，有誤，感謝指出） 5、用if會引起歧義時，只用whether。如： 例12 Could you tell me if you know the answer ? 這句話有兩種意思whether和if的用法區(qū)別 1)whether和if常用來引導賓語從句，這時兩者的含義區(qū)別很小，一般可通用。例如： I dont know whether/if they will come to help us. 我不知道他們是否來幫助我們。 I am not sure whether/if Ill have time to go with you. 我很難說我們是否有時間跟你們一起去。 上面兩句無區(qū)別。但是，當whether與or not連成一個詞組時，whether不可換用if。例如： I dont know whether or not they will come for our help. 我不知道他們是否要來求我們支援。 【注意】若whether和or not不連在一起，在口語中可以用if取代whether，當然也可以用whether。例如： I am not certain if/whether the train will arrive on time. 我沒有把握火車是否準時到達。 I dont care if/whether your car breaks down or not. 我不在乎您的車是否是會出故障。 此外，還有些情況值得注意： (1)在介詞后面只能用whether，不能用if。例如： This depends upon whether we are determined to do it. 這件事要看我們是否有決心去做。 It depends on whether he is ready. 這件事要看他是否有準備。 I am not interested in whether youll come or not. 你來不來我不感興趣。 We havent settled the question of whether well renew our supplies of coal for factory. 是否要為我們工廠補充一些煤，這個問題我們還沒有決定。 (2)在動詞不定式之前，只能用whether，不能用if。例如： He doesnt know whether to stay or not. 他不能知道是否要留下來。 She doesnt knows whether to get married now or wait. 是否現(xiàn)在結(jié)婚或是等待她不知道。(3)在及物運動discuss后的賓語從句中，只能用whether，不能用if。例如： We discussed whether we should make a change in our plan. 我們討論了是不是要對我們的計劃作一些修改。 We were discussing whether we should discuss the business with them. 我們正在討論我們是否要和他們談這個生意。 4)引導主語從句時，只能用whether，不能用if。例如： It is unknown whether he will come. 他是否來還不知道。 Whether the news is true remains a question. 這個消息是否真實仍然是個問題。5)引導表語從句時，只能用whether，不能用if。例如： What we want to know is whether he will come to speak to us tomorrow. 我們想知道的是他明天是否來給我們講話。 The question is whether they can take our advice. 問題是他們是否能接受我們的意見。 6)引導同位語從句時，常用whether。例如： The question whether well build another lecture buil你到底想說什么 hasnt been settled. 是否要另建一幢教學樓的問題還未決定。 The question whether hell come is unknown. 他是否來的問題還不知道。 7)可以用來引導一個否定的賓語從句，whether則不能用來引導否定的賓語從句，因為它表示正反兩方面的選擇意義比較強。例如： Tell me if it is not going to rain, please. 請告訴我明天是否不會下雨。 He considered if he shouldnt tell her the secret. 他考慮他是否不該告訴她這個秘密。8)if除引導賓語從句外，還可以引導條件狀語從句，作“是否”解。在容易引起混淆產(chǎn)生歧義的情況下，就不可用if，而須用whether。例如： Please let me know if you intend to come.這個句子有兩種解釋： A：“請讓我們知道你是否想來?！?B：“如果你打算來，請讓我們知道。” 第一種解釋是把if引導的從句看作賓語從句，把動詞know視為及物動詞(vt)；第二種解釋是把if引導的從句當作條件狀語從句，把動詞know看作不及物動詞(vi)。 在口語中，我們可以通過語調(diào)來表示兩者的區(qū)別；但是，在書面語中，無上下文(如一張便條上寫著這句話)，那就含混不清了。如果我們想表達的第一種含義，就得用whether來改寫第一句。 Please let me know whether you intend to come. 又如： Let me know whether he has left for Shanghai. 告訴我他是否已經(jīng)去上海了。 Let me know if he has left for Shanghai. 如果他去上海，請告訴我一聲。 此外，whether還可以引導讓步狀語從句，作“無論、不管”解，這兒就略而不談1. 引導主語從句并在句首時不用if。如： Whether we go there is not decided. 我們是否去那里還沒決定。 2. 引導表語從句時不用if。如： The question is whether we can get there on time. 問題是我們能否按時到達那里。 3. 引導同位語從句時不用if。如： He asked me the question whether the
