Play is limited in space and timethe rules of play take on spatial and temporal elements in order to demarcate them more fully. Games typically have boundaries; areas on which play proceeds, and beyond which other rules apply. Evidence from the ways in which these boundaries are treated helps us to gauge the extent to which an activity remains truly playful, or becomes more serious.
