Teaching aims By the end of the class, students will be able to 1. have a general idea of poems, clearly understand different simple types of poems; 2. know the skill of connecting their background knowledge with reading materials, distinguish five kinds of poems even easily appreciate different forms of poems;. Teaching methods1. By skimming and scanning, help students grasp the basic structure and main idea of the passage.2. Elicitation, discussion, listening, pair work. BackgroundPoetry is an old but beautiful form of literature. Though hard to appreciate and write, poetry should never be ignored in todays teaching practice. Poems have beats(節(jié)拍). They may rhyme(押韻) or may not rhyme but they have to have rhythms(節(jié)奏).This beat is not always obvious, but its usually there. Rhyme and rhythm are essential to poetry, without which there wouldnt be poems. For example:Twinkle twinkle little star 強 弱 強 弱 強 弱 強.
