Stretch FilmWhat is Stretch Film?Stretch film is a plastic film used to secure, bundle, and stabilize products. Stretch film is made from linear low-density polyethylene. When applying the film is to be pulled and stretched around products to obtain tight and secured product loads. Stretch film comes in a variety of widths, thicknesses, and colors. We offer multiple varieties of stretch film to choose from in a wide array of widths and thicknesses. All of our stretch wrap film is made from virgin material ensuring the highest quality possible.Stretch wrap is usually made of linear low-density polyethylene or LLDPE. There are two methods of producing it: Blown, where the resin is melted and blown out then air-cooled. This process is slower, but results in film of a higher quality. This also costs more to produce because of the quantity that can be produced per hour. Cast, where the film is passed over cooling rollers, which considerably speeds up the cooling process. It costs less to produce than blown ones, because the film can be made in multiple layers. The layers allow the film to be made with cling properties on one side, which is perfect if you dont want one pallet to stick to the one next to it. The layers also make the film stronger with the addition of tough layers on the inside. Most of whats commercially available nowadays is cast, Stretch Wrap film, which is clearer and quieter release than blown ones when coming off the roll.Hand stretch FilmWhat is Hand Stretch Film?Hand stretch film is considered any stretch film roll that is easily applied by hand. Most hand stretch film rolls weigh less than ten pounds. Hand rolls can come in a variety of widths, but the most common widths are 15 and 18 inch wide rolls. Hand stretch rolls can be applied with or without a stretch film dispenser. The dispensers often have a braking system to help obtain a thighter stretch when applying the film. Our hand pallet wrap comes with a standard 3 inch core size allowing rolls to easily fit any dispensers.Features: Smooth, easy release Wraps loads fast with little effort High clarity for barcode reading or load identification 10% to 20% less expensive than brand name filmsColored Hand Stretch Film(3 inch Core)Colored hand pallet wrap comes in a variety of colors to help color code or easily identify pallet loads. Our color tinted stretch wrap is a tinted film that can be seen through. We also offer opaque stretch wrapin white and black that cannot be seen through after a couple of revolutions around the load. Great for protection and concealment of loads. Our standard stretch film offers up to a 300% stretch rate. The ability to have a braking system when applying the film is important to eliminate waste.Pre-Stretched Hand Stretch Film(3 inch Core)Pre stretched hand stretch film is a great option to consider. Pre-stretched film is a standard 80 gauge stretch film stretched to within 10% of its maximum stretch potential. This enables less energy exertion when applying the wrap. Instead of pulling hard to reach maximum stretch potential, only a tenth of the energy is required to apply the film. Some drawbacks of pre-stretched film includes decrease in cling, and decrease in ability to tightly pull product boxes on loads together. Because the film is already within 10% of its maximum stretch potential, you cannot wrap the film to tight. We recommendpre-stretched hand stretch wrapfor lighter loads, or loads that will not be experiencing high transportation stress.Machine stretch film Machine stretch film often refers to the length of the stretch film roll. Machine stretch film rolls are commonly available in 1500 meters to 3000 meters per roll, opposed to 400 metershand stretch filmrolls. Widths of machine stretch film generally start at 20 inches wide and increase up to 80 or more inches wide. The standard core size to fit moststretch wrap machinesis 3 inches. Machine stretch filmis ideal for medium to large scale operations intending to wrap products quickly and efficiently. We offer a variety of machine stretch wrap products:Features: High pre-stretch levels High film stretchability Exceptional cling Excellent clarityStandard Gauged Machine Stretch FilmOur standard gauged machine pallet wrap will be comparable to any other manufacturers standard gauged stretch wrap. It offers excellent stretch, tear strength, great clarity, and strength.Performance Machine Stretch FilmA great choice for down gauging and saving money! Our performance machine stretch wrap has more stretch than standard gauged film and offers the ability to down gauge and save money.Pre Stretched Machine Stretch FilmA great option to save on film & energy costs. Our pre stretched machine stretch wrap is a standard 80 gauge machine pallet wrap stretched to 90% of its maximum stretch potential. Less energy exertion is required when wrapping. We recommend pre stretched machine stretch film for lighter loads where a large amount of tension and cling is not required when applying.Color Tinted Machine Stretch FilmWe recommend color tinted machine film for anyone wanting to quickly identify pallet loads or color code shipments.Opaque Machine Stretch Film-Ideal for securing loads and protecting products from UV radiation. Within 2-3 revolutions, our opaque film is completely opaque. Protecting your shipments from UV radiation and concealing contents. What is heat shrink wrap?Often confused with stretch film, heat shrink wrap consists of a wide variety of plastic materials designed to shrinkafter heat is applied. Common plastics used to produce heat shrink wrap are: polyolefin, PVC, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Heat shrink wrap is used as a packaging solution all around the world. Everything from wrapping frozen pizzas to bundling hardware. The proper shrink film, material thicknesses, and machines can help make production more efficient and streamlined. At Meihui Plastic, we are happy to offer a large variety of products intended for use in multiple industries. We are a heat shrink wrap supplier to companies all over the world. What is PVC?PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, one of the most commonly produced plastics in the world. PVC plastic has been around since the early 19th century. Today, one of the most well known uses for PVC plastic is in pipe. PVC pipe is often used for water and sewer transportation applications. PVC plastic is also found in a variety of other objects around us. PVC plastic is in everything from clothes, signs, flooring, and packaging. PVC shrink wrap is one of the most commonly used materials in the packaging industry.PVC shrink wrap is ideal for a variety of packaging situations. Known to be an excellent shrink film for high speed machines and manually operated machines. PVC shrink film is commonly found in centerfold rolls 500 ft., 1500 ft., 2000 ft. lengths and a wide variety of widths. We currently offer a 75 ga. and a 100 ga. PVC shrink film in multiple widths.*PVC Shrink Filmhas been a common polymer used for years in the packaging industry as well as many other industries. PVC shrink film is ideal for high speed operations and is often the preferred shrink wrap for many operations. PVC shrink film has been used for years to wrap everything from CDs to paint trays. Clear PVC shrink wrap is by far the most common, butcolored shrink wrapis used in a variety of industries to help products stand out on shelves.*Cost Advantage-PVC shrink rolls are more affordable than polyolefin shrink wrap. Depending on the width of PVC shrink wrap you choose, they can vary from 2.9 cents per foot to 8 cents per foot. Those figures are from our2000 ft.PVC shrink rolls. We also offer a smaller500 ft. centerfold rollsfor smaller output operations. There are multiple options to choose from when deciding a packaging material for your products. PVC shrink wrap is a great option to consider. The ability to maintain an affordable price, while allowing excellent presentation of your product makes PVC shrink wrap a great choice.*Protection-PVC shrink film, like any shrink wrap has the ability to offer protection from tampering and exterior elements. Both centerfold PVC shrink and Polyolefin shrink are great for providing that extra tamper security.Along with assisting in tamper evidence, shrink film is great for protection from exterior elements like dust, pollen, and moisture. A centerfold shrink film will not make your products completely water proof, but it does provide extra protection from moisture.*Shrinking & Sealing-PVC shrink film has great shrinking and sealing properties. Our PVC shrink rolls have up to a 40% shrink rate. Along with a high shrink rate, the film requires a low temperature to shrink. We always recommend a larger width of film than your product. In the How to measure section you will see that we recommend buying a shrink film a couple of inches bigger than your product measurements. This wider film allows extra film for sealing, as well as room for the film to shrink when applying heat. Too large of shrink film can cause dog ears in the corners of the product. That is why we recommend using the formula below for measuring.*Precautions-We always recommend proper ventilation when sealing and shrinking PVC shrink wrap. The Chloride in the film emits a strong odor that can be harmful if too much is inhaled. PVC shrink wrap can not come into direct contact with consumable products. It can be used for secondary packaging, but not for direct food contact. We recommend the use of a centerfold polyolefin shrink wrapfor direct contact with food. Centerfold PVC shrink film offers a strong seal and superior clarity at an affordable price. We do offer other thicknesses, feel free to call our sales department for more information on any of our shrink wrap productsat 0086Common Centerfold PVC Sizes -For high speed machines, 2000 ft. centerfold rolls are commonly used. For manual shrink machines many customers choose to use 500 ft. rolls. See commonly used widths belowHow To Measure For Centerfold Shrink WrapPVC Centerfold Shrink Wrap- The easiest way to measure for centerfold shrink wrap is to add the width and depth, then add 2-3 inches. If a product is 10 inches wide and 4 inches tall, you would add 10+4+2=16. A 16 inch wide film would be ideal for wrapping the product. If a 16 inch film is not available, go up to the next size of film, never go down in size.Gauge Thickness Conversion ChartGaugeMilMicronMillimeterInch30.307.6.0076.000340.4010.0101.000450.5012.5.0127.000560.6015.0152.000675.7519.0190.000780.8020.0203.000890.9023.0228.00091001.025.0254.00101201.230.0304.00121501.538.0380.00151601.640.0406.00161801.845.0457.00182002.050.0508.0020What is Polyolefin?(Polyolefin) is a plastic polymer, the root word olefin refers to any member of the alkene series. An alkene is any unsaturated chemical compound containing at least one carbon double bond. Ethylene is one ofthe most common olefins. Polyolefins are used in a variety of industries including: automotive, cosmetics, adhesives, packaging and more. Poyolefin shrink film is the most common form of polyolefin used in the packaging industry.Polyolefin shrink wrap offers many advantages over PVC shrink wrap. In recent years, polyolefin has become the preferred shrink material for most shrink packaging applications. Our polyolefin shrink film is FDA approved for direct food contact.*Polyolefin- is a polymer that has become a chosen polymer in the packaging industry because of its shrinking properties, clarity, and absence of chloride. Polyolefin is a generic term that refers to a variety ofpolymers. Polyolefin is considered a thermoplastic material that contracts when heated. It remains odorless when heated and cooled. This is an important advantage overPVC shrink wrap. PVC shrink film contains Chloride that emits a strong odor when heated and cooled. Proper ventilation is a must when dealing with PVC shrink wrap.*Centerfold polyolefin shrink wrap- is a great option for packaging a variety of products. Companies have moved to using polyolefin to package everything from consumable products to bundling insect sprays. Originally there was a shift in the packaging industry to polyolefin shrink film for packaging consumable products. As stated above, the polyolefin does not contain the chloride PVC shrink film does.Centerfold shrink film is great because of how the film is folded onto the roll. The film is folded length ways onto the roll to allow users to quickly insert the product being packaged into the fold crease. The illustration to the right will help show how products are into the centerfold shrink roll.Once the product is placed into the fold crease, film will be covering the product on both sides. The best option for sealing centerfold polyolefin or PVC shrink wrap is an L-Bar sealer. TheL-Bar sealerhas 2 sealing sides to clamp down on the centerfold wrap around the product. The sealer will seal and cut in one motion. There are dozens of options for L-Bar sealers out there, and it can be tedious finding the best one for your operation. That is why we only offer basic L-Bar sealers online that are great for manual and smaller operations. What is Crosslinked Polyolefin Shrink Film? The cross lining of polymers can be done chemically or with irradiation. Irradiation exposes the polymer or plastic to high energy b rays. Crosslinking for polyolefin shrink film uses the irradiation process. The exposure to b rays cause cross-linking bonds at the molecular level. This cross-linking effect provides a variety of benefits for the film. Benefits to cross linked shrink film include:Increased tensile strengthHigher abrasion resistanceImproved burst strengthStronger, more durable sealsThe irradiation also sterilizes the film making cross-linked shrink film ideal for health care and food packaging applications.Polyolefin Shrink Wrap vs. PVC Shrink WrapStorage-Polyolefin shrink wrap does not have the storage temperature restrictions PVC shrink wrap does. PVC shrink film can not be stored in temperatures that are too hot or too cold because of the plasticizers.Clarity-Polyolefin shrink wrap offers a much clearer look after heat is applied.Lack of Odor- As stated above, polyolefin shrink film does not contain chloride like PVC shrink film does. The chloride emits an odor when heat is applied to it.Less Build Up on Sealer Wires- The plasticizers in the PVC shrink wrap can cause build up on the shrink machine sealing wire. This build up requires routine cleaning or replacement of the sealing wire.FDA Approved- Polyolefin is the only shrink film we offer that is FDA approved and can come into direct contact with consumable products. We offer multiple widths and thicknesses to choose from on all of ourshrink wrap materials. Here is a detailed blog post aboutwhat thickness of shrink film you need. If you have any questions, feel free tocontact us at 0086Stretch Film TermsBlown Stretch Film-A stretch film derived from the blown extrusion process that has a greater puncture resistance. Click on the stretch film info page to view detailed information about blown stretch film.Bottom Wraps-The wraps a stretch wrap machine uses to apply film to the bottom section of the load. Forming a strong bottom wrap will help to ensure load stability.Cast Stretch Film-A stretch film derived from the cast extrusion process.Less manufacturing costs allow cast stretch film to be the more widely used stretch film. Visit the stretch film info page to view detailed info about cast stretch film.Cling-Allows the film to stick to itself and not the product. Some films have one sided cling and others have two sided cling.Co-extrusion-Extruding two or more materials through a single die to enable the two materials to merge together.Dart Drop-A commonly used test to measure puncture strength of a stretch film. It is conducted by dropping a semi-circular shaped object onto the film.Elastic Recovery-The ability of a stretch film to recover to its original shape after being stretched.Elmendorf Tear-Another common test used for stretch film and other products to measure tear resistance.Extruder-Equipment used to change solid polymers into molten polymers.Film Feed-In a stretch wrap machine, it is the speed at which stretch film is supplied to the load.Film Force-Refers to the amount of tension applied to the film as the film isapplied to the load.Film Memory-The ability of the film to return to its pre-stretched form. This enables the film to maintain a tight load during transportation.Film Tail-The start and end pieces of stretch film applied to the load. Generally these pieces are cut off laterGauge-A measurement used to measure film thickness or caliper. One gauge is equal to .254 microns. Microns are another common form of film measurement.Gloss-The amount of light reflected from a films surface. Cast stretch films tend to have a higher gloss than blown stretch films.Haze-Refers to lack of clarity in a film. Blown stretch films commonly have more haze than cast stretch films due to crystallization during the manufacturing process.LLDPE Stretch Film-Linear Low Density Polyethylene stretch film. A plastic that is preferred in a variety of film due to its toughness, stretchability, and relative transparency.Metallocene-A compound used to make a new form of stretch film. Metallocene stretch films offer increasedpuncture resistance and many otheruseful benefits.Microns-A unit of measurement commonly used to measure the th
