這個(gè)故事的精彩程度遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)沒有作者講故事本身精彩。一個(gè)追求夢(mèng)想的人,拋棄家庭妻子孩子工作一切,去追求夢(mèng)想。這樣的人,特別是故事中的Strickland,是自私、不負(fù)責(zé)任、逃避現(xiàn)實(shí)不敢面對(duì)、甚至有些冷血的與世俗價(jià)值觀絕對(duì)違背的社會(huì)異類,他妄圖擺脫社會(huì)給他的一切枷鎖,尋找自己的生存方式,哪怕是忍受饑寒交迫和種種折磨苦難,都無怨無悔。這樣的人讓人覺得可恨,因?yàn)槿绻蠹叶枷騍trickland一樣,這個(gè)社會(huì)要么徹底亂套,要么就是實(shí)現(xiàn)了共產(chǎn)主義。但這樣的人又讓人佩服,甚至羨慕,他無疑是強(qiáng)大的,有勇氣與毅力。無論最終的結(jié)果是什么,他能夠找到自己的夢(mèng)或者過上夢(mèng)里的世界,他都已經(jīng)成功了。做自己的夢(mèng),讓別人說去吧!毛姆在講故事的過程中,從各種人的角度出發(fā),間或夾雜些自己的評(píng)論,將主人公刻畫的淋漓盡致。他的筆就如刀,雕刻出的現(xiàn)象豐滿生動(dòng)。
