because引導(dǎo)的原因狀語從句說明為什么睡不著的原因。

(2)Coming

from

the

bar現(xiàn)在分詞作賓語補(bǔ)足語

.coming為現(xiàn)在分詞,它引導(dǎo)的短語修飾noise,為賓語補(bǔ)足語。也可變?yōu)閺木浣Y(jié)構(gòu):astrangenoisethatcamefromthebar。表感覺的動詞如see,hear,feel,watch,notice等之后,往往用賓語+賓語補(bǔ)足語這個結(jié)構(gòu),其賓語補(bǔ)足語既可以是不定式(通常不加to),也可以是現(xiàn)在分詞,兩者在意義上區(qū)別不大,現(xiàn)在分詞表示動作正在發(fā)生,不定式則表示動作發(fā)生了:

sleepsleep;gotosleep;fallasleep;asleep的區(qū)別

sleep既可作動詞也可作名詞,作名詞時解釋為“睡眠”。

fallasleep和gotosleep都可以解釋為“入睡”,如果要說“去睡覺”應(yīng)該是“gotobed。

asleepadj.熟睡的,這個詞只能跟在系動詞后面作表語,而不能用來修飾名詞,如:

Quiet!Thebabyisasleep.安靜!寶寶睡著呢。

Thenextmorning,hefoundthatthedoorshadbeenblockedbychairsandthefurniturehadbeenmoved.that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句ThoughMr.Thompsonhadturnedthelightsoffbeforehewenttobed,theywereoninthemorning.Turnthelightsoff關(guān)燈

turnthelightson開燈on為形容詞,表示“開著的,接通的”,其反義詞為off。eg.Whenhearrivedhome,hefoundthatallthelightswereon.eg.IstheTVon?IthoughtIhaveturneditoff.Healsosaidthathehadfoundfiveemptywhiskybottleswhichtheghostmusthavedrunkthenightbefore.直接引語變成間接引語時,時間狀語要改變。lastnight昨天晚上thenightbefore前一天晚上,(2)that引導(dǎo)的為間接引語,因此時間狀語要變動。直接引語中的時間狀語為lastnight,轉(zhuǎn)述時變成了thenightbefore。其他時間狀語的變化有:now→then,twodaysago→twodaysbefore/earlier,today→thatday,tonight→thatnight,tomorrow→thenext/followingday,lastnight→thenightbefore等。

which引導(dǎo)的從句用來修飾fiveemptywhiskybottles,由于鬼魂喝的是酒,因此句中的5個瓶子指的是5瓶酒。這是一種借喻的修飾方法。

WhenIsuggestedthatsomevillagersmusthavecomeinforafreedrink,Mr.Thompsonshookhishead.Musthavedone…對過去事實的肯定猜測表示對發(fā)生完的事情比較有把握的判斷.eg.Itmusthaverainedyesterday,becausetheroadiswet.昨天肯定下雨了,因為馬路都是濕的。WhenIsuggestedthatsomevillagersmusthavecomeinforafreedrink,Mr.Thompsonshookhishead.For+n.表某人的目的For+v.-ing

表某物的用途eg.Hewenthomeforlunch.他回家吃午飯eg.Iboughtthebookforstudyingathome.
