AronRalston畢業(yè)于卡內(nèi)基梅隆大學機械工程系，2002年從英特爾辭職后立志在冬季登遍科羅拉多州的高山，成功攀登了58座高峰。

AronRalston在2003年5月峽谷探險時遇到意外，右臂被夾在石縫中無法動彈，他只好借由身體的力量靠在峽谷巖壁上，這樣支撐了5天之后，他突然想出了一個匪夷所思的辦法，用小刀割斷自己的手臂，并且成功的拯救了自己。斷肢六小時后由直升機救走，搶救醫(yī)生說：再晚一個小時獲救的話AronRalston就會因失血過多而不治。
