Senescenceisaprograminwhichthefunctionoforganorwholeplantnaturally

declinestodeath.Thisisanessentialphaseofthegrowthanddevelopmentinplant.

Bothinternalandenvironmentalfactorscauseplantsenescence.Therefore,weshould

doitinseveralaspects.

First,weshouldusegermplasmsresistanttosenescencebyselectionofvarieties

andcultivarsresisttosenescencebecausemostplantshavetheirresistantvarietyor

cultivarwecanuse.

Second,moderntechnologyhaveprovidedusatoolforsenescence-delayed

transgenesandproducedsomestay-greenplantssuchastobacco,sorghum,soybean

andriceetc.Wecancontinuetoimprovethemfordelayingsenescence.

Third,Applicationofplantsubstancesforresistancetosenescenceisalso

availablesuchasutilizationofCTKs,BRs,polyamines,lAAsfordifferentplants.

Fourth,itisnecessarytoprovidegoodconditionsforplantswhenweculture

anddevelopment.Highorlowtemperatureisdisadvantageoustoabsorption,

transportationandutilizationofwaterandmineralnutritionbyplant,resultsingrowth

inhibitionevendeathbecauseofthephysiologicaldroughtandnutritiondeficiency.

Highorlowtemperaturecausesdeclinationofphotosyntheticrateandincreaseof

photo-anddark-respiration,especiallyanaerobicrespiration,whichoftenresultin

starvationtodeathorgrowthstuntbecausetheydamagethestructuresofchloroplasts
