CalculusoffunctionsofseveralvariablesandAnalyticgeometryof3dimensionalobjects.WhatcanCalculusdo?InCalculusI,wesawthatdifferentiationcanbeusedtofindtheslopeofacurveatany(smooth)point.Wecanalsousedifferentiationtofindthelocalmaxandlocalminimumofafunction.Inthiscourse,wewilllearnhowtofindtheslopeofasurfaceatanysmoothpoint,andinanydirection.Wewillalsolearnhowtofindthelocalmaximumandlocalminimumofasurface.AbsolutemaxlocalmaxabsoluteminlocalminInCalculusI,wesawthatIntegrationcanbeusedtofindtheareabetweenacurveandthex-axis(from
