英語(yǔ)專業(yè)學(xué)生翻譯過程中思維定勢(shì)現(xiàn)象研究的中期報(bào)告TheMid-termReportonResearchontheCognitiveFixationPhenomenoninTranslationamongEnglishMajorsAbstract:Translationisacomplicatedcognitiveprocessthatinvolvestheuseofinnovativeanddivergentthinkingskills.However,manyEnglishmajorswhoarelearningtranslationhavebeenfoundtobetrappedincognitivefixationduringthetranslationprocess,whichseriouslyaffectsthequalityoftheirtranslations.Thisresearchaimstoexplorethecauses,types,andeffectsofcognitivefixationduringtranslationamongEnglishmajors,andtoprovidesuggestionsforimprovingtheirtranslationskills.Keywords:cognitivefixation;translation;Englishmajors;thinkingskills;qualityIntroduction:Inrecentyears,withthepromotionofglobalizationandthedevelopmentofcross-culturalcommunication,translationhasbecomeanincreasinglyimportantlanguageactivity.AsEnglishiswidelyusedasavehicleofinternationalcommunication,Englishmajorsplayacrucialroleinthetranslationindustry.However,manyEnglishmajorshavebeenfoundtofacevariousdifficultiesduringtheprocessoftranslation,whichhinderstheirabilitytotranslateaccuratelyandeffectively.CognitivepsychologyprovidesanexplanationforthedifficultiesencounteredbyEnglishmajorsintranslation.Cognitivefixationisacommoncognitivephenomenonthatreferstothetendencyofpeopletorelyonpre-existingknowledgeandexperiencewhenencounteringaproblem,ratherthanexploringnewideasorsolutions.Thisphenomenoncanseriouslyinfluenceanindividual'screativityandproblem-solvingability,anditcanleadtosuboptimaloutcomesinvariousdomains.Inthecontextoftranslation,thetranslator'scognitiveprocessesareheavilyinfluencedbythefixationphenomenon,whichcanrestricttheirabilitytogeneratenewlexical,syntactical,andconceptualsolutionstotheproblemstheyencounter.Toaddressthisissue,thisresearchaimstoinvestigatethecognitivefixationphenomenonamongEnglishmajorsduringthetranslationprocess.Specifically,itwillexplorethecausesandtypesofcognitivefixationandtheeffectsofcognitivefixationonthetranslationqualityofEnglishmajors.ResearchQuestions:1.WhatarethecausesofcognitivefixationamongEnglishmajorsduringthetranslationprocess?2.WhattypesofcognitivefixationexistinthetranslationprocessamongEnglishmajors?3.HowdoescognitivefixationinfluencethetranslationqualityofEnglishmajors?LiteratureReview:Cognitivepsychologyresearchhasexploredcognitivefixationinavarietyofdomains,suchascreativity,problem-solving,anddecision-makingprocess.Scholarshavepointedoutthatcognitivefixationcanbecausedbymultiplefactors,suchastaskcomplexity,priorknowledge,andmotivation.Amongthem,theinfluenceofpriorknowledgeisparticularlyimportant,asthepre-existingknowledgeandexperiencecanserveasascaffoldorabarriertothegenerationofnewideasandsolutions.Inthecontextoftranslation,cognitivefixationcanmanifestinvariousforms.Forexample,lexicalandsyntacticfixationmayrefertotheexcessiveuseofaparticularwordoraparticularsentencestructureintranslation.Conceptualfixationmayoccurwhenthetranslatoristrappedinacertainconceptualframeworkoraparticularwayofinterpretingthesourcetext,whichmayleadtomistranslationsorinaccuracies.Moreover,cognitivefixationcanhaveprofoundeffectsonthetranslationqualityofEnglishmajors.Studieshaveshownthatfixationcandecreasetheoriginalityandqualityoftranslations,asitrestrictstheabilitytoapplyinnovativethinkingskills.Inaddition,cognitivefixationcanleadtoalackoffluencyandcoherenceinthetranslatedtext,whichmayaffectthereadabilityandcomprehensibilityofthetargettext.Methodology:ThisresearchaimstoexplorethecognitivefixationphenomenonamongEnglishmajorsduringthetranslationprocess.Wewilladoptamulti-methodapproach,includingtheanalysisofstudents'translationproducts,interviewswithparticipants,andquestionnaires.ParticipantswillbeselectedfromEnglishmajorsinaprestigiousuniversityinChinawhohavetakenatranslationcourse.Theirtranslationproductswillbecollected,andtheirthinkingprocessesduringthetranslationwillbeexploredthroughinterviews.Aquestionnairewillbeusedtocollectdataontheirtranslationexperience,translationstrategies,andcognitivestrategies.ExpectedContributions:ThisresearchaimstoprovideacomprehensiveunderstandingofthecognitivefixationphenomenonamongEnglishmajorsduringthetranslationprocess.Thefindingswillhelptoidentifythecausesandtypesofcognitivefixationthatoccurduringthetranslationprocess,an
