Financialneedsaren*ttheonlyculpritforthenunretirement"trend.Otherreasons,

catch-allternforpracticesthatmanipulateuserinterfacestoinfluencethe
decision-makingabilityofusers.Brignullidentifies12typesofcommondarkpatters,
rangingfrommisdirectionandhiddencoststoroachmotel/whereauserexperience
seemseasyandintuitiveatthestart,butturnsdifficultwhentheusertriestogetout.
Ina2019studyof53.000productpagesand11000websites,researchersfound
thataboutonein10employsthesedesignpractices.Thoughwidelyprevalent,the
conceptofdarkpatternsisstillnotwellunderstood.Businessandnonprofitleaders
shouldbeawareofdarkpatternsandtrytoavoidthegrayareastheyengender
