Astheglobalpopulationcontinuestogrowatanunprecedentedrate,thedemandfornaturalresourcesisincreasingexponentially.Thishasresultedintheexcessiveexploitationofnaturalresources,leadingtodeforestation,habitatdestruction,andthelossofbiodiversity.Inaddition,rapidindustrializationandurbanizationhaveresultedinthereleaseoflargeamountsofpollutantsintotheatmosphere,leadingtoairpollution,acidrain,andglobalwarming.

Theconsequencesofclimatechangearebecomingmoreapparenteachyear.Extremeweatherevents,suchasfloods,droughts,heatwaves,andhurricanes,havebecomemorefrequentandintense,causingimmensedamagetoourenvironmentandendangeringthelivesandlivelihoodsofmillionsofpeoplearoundtheworld.Risingsealevelsandthemeltingofpolaricecapsarethreateningcoastalcommunitiesandislandnationswiththeriskofsubmersion.
