Thewordsfartherandfurther(whichcanbeusedaseitheradjectivesoradverbs)arebothcomparativeformsoftheadjective/adverbfar.Whilethesetermsaresometimesinterchangeable,thereareimportantdifferencesthatshouldbekeptinmind.

Althoughbothofthesetermsareusedtoexpressthemeaningof‘greaterdistance’,asageneralrule,farthershouldbeusedwithregardtophysicaldistance,andfurthershouldbeusedwithregardtonon-physicaldistance.Thisdifferenceisillustratedbythefollowing.
