MyproposalfortheMarsaOpenCentreembodiedamovefromanarchitectureoffear,dependency,andisolationtoanarchitectureofcommunity,participation,andtransition.

Aflexiblestructuralsystemwascreatedinconjunctionwithanoverallschemethatsupportedexistingcentersofcommunitysupportaswellasnewfacilitiesthatcouldbesharedbyasylumseekersandthesurroundingcommunity.ThisenabledthenewMarsaCentretoresponddynamicallytochangingneedsandunstableconditions,inparticularfluctuationsinmigrationtoMalta.

Sincetheprojectusedanexistingprogramandsiteasastartingpointwithhundredsofasylumseekersalreadylivingthere,itwascrucialthatanychangeswereimplementedincrementally,overtime,inresponsetotheneedsofthepresentandfutureusersaswelltheirenvironment.
