Bicyclesafetyismostlyamatterofcommonsense.Peopleshouldrideonlyonbicyclepathswheretheywillnotbebadlyhurtifanaccidenthappens.Therearealsoanumberofrulesthatridersshouldfollow,especiallywhenridingonstreetsorhighways.Bicyclistsshouldneverrideagainstthetraffic,norcarryotherpeopleontheirbicycles.Theyarealsosupposedtorideonone-waystreetsandtowalkbicyclesacrossthebusyintersections(交叉路口).Byfollowingtheserules,bicycleriderswillnotonlystayhealthybutalsobesafe.

Inonerecentyear,theNationalSafetyCouncilreportedthatthirty-fourthousandbicycleriderswerehurtinhighwayaccidents.Inthesameyear,anothersixhundredriderswerekilled.Sincetheintroductionofcrashhelmets(頭盔)in,thenumberofinjuries(傷者)anddeathsfrombicyclingaccidentshadgonedown.Today,moreandmoreridersrealisethedangerofbicycling.Theywearhelmetsandpaymuchmoreattentiontothecyclingrules.
