3.Post-graduateCrazeCoolsOffThepost-graduatecrazehaslongsincebeenahotissueonmostcampusesaroundthecountry.AccordingtothestatisticsreleasedbyShanghaiEducationalTestInstitute79299studentsinShanghaisatinforthepost-graduateentranceexamsin2003adramaticriseof32.6%overthepreviousyear.Theyearof2003isthetenthyearsincethenumberofpost-graduatetesttakersbegantogrowrapidlyandsteadily.Howeversincethentherisinglinehasgraduallyplateauedyearbyyearwithamodestriseof6.7%1.8%2.1%respectivelyin200420052006.In2007thenumberoftesttakersevendroppedby6.5%incomparisonwith2006.Allthesestatisticspointtoaninterestingphenomenon—thepost-graduatetestafteraten-yearcrazeisstartingtocooloff.Threemajorfactorsaccountforthecoolingoffofthepost-graduatecraze.Oneisthepost-graduateeducationreform.Post-graduatestudentsusedtoenjoyamodestgovernmentsubsidyfortheirthree-yearstudies.Butaccordingtothenewgraduateprogramtheyhavetopayforalltheirlivingandlearningexpenses.Facedwiththerisingeducationcostssomestudentshesitatetoapplyforthetest.Anotherfactoristhepressurefromtheincreasinglycompetitivejobmarket.Manystudentsusedtobelievethatthemoreeducationtheyreceivedthebetterjobopportunitiestheywouldhave.Withtheexpandedenrollmentforbothundergraduatesandpost-graduatesjobhuntbecomesmoreandmoredifficult.Manystudentsfearthatwhentheyfinishtheirpost-graduatestudiesthepositionswillhavebeenalreadyoccupied.Moreovermanycompaniespreferexperiencedemployeestonewgraduateswhotendtoknownothingbutimpracticalbookknowledge.Asaresultsomestudentsdecidetostartworkearlysoastoaccumulatemoreworkexperiences.Inmyopinionbeforewemakethechoiceweneedtothinktwice.WhatkindofjobdoIreallywanttodo?Doesthejobrequirepracticalworkexperienceortheoreticalknowledge?CanthegraduateprogramofferwhatIwanttolearn?Ourfinaldecisionshouldbebasedonourpersonalsituations.Post-graduateCrazeCoolsOffThepost-graduatecrazehaslongsincebeenahotissueonmostcampusesaroundthecountry.AccordingtothestatisticsreleasedbyShanghaiEducationalTestInstitute,79,299studentsinShanghaisatinforthepost-graduateentranceexamsin2003,adramaticriseof32.6%overthepreviousyear.Theyearof2003isthetenthyearsincethenumberofpost-graduatetesttakersbegantogrowrapidlyandsteadily.However,sincethen,therisinglinehasgraduallyplateauedyearbyyear,withamodestriseof6.7%,1.8%,2.1%respectivelyin2004,2005,2006.In2007,thenumberoftesttakersevendroppedby6.5%incomparisonwith2006.Allthesestatisticspointtoaninterestingphenomenon—thepost-graduatetest,afteraten-yearcraze,isstartingtocooloff.Threemajorfactorsaccountforthecoolingoffofthepost-graduatecraze.Oneisthepost-graduateeducationreform.Post-graduatestudentsusedtoenjoyamodestgovernmentsubsidyfortheirthree-yearstudies.Butaccordingtothenewgraduateprogram,theyhavetopayforalltheirlivingandlearningexpenses.Facedwiththerisingeducationcosts,somestudentshesitatetoapplyforthetest.Anotherfactoristhepressurefromtheincreasinglycompetitivejobmarket.Manystudentsusedtobelievethatthemoreeducationtheyreceived,thebetterjobopportunitiestheywouldhave.Withtheexpandedenrollmentforbothundergraduatesandpost-graduates,jobhuntbecomesmoreandmoredifficult.Manystudentsfearthatwhentheyfinishtheirpost-graduatestudies,thepositionswillhavebeenalreadyoccupied.Moreover,manycompaniespreferexperiencedemployeestonewgraduateswhotendtoknownothingbutimpracticalbookknowledge.Asaresult,somestudentsdecidetostartworkearlysoastoaccumulatemoreworkexperiences.Inmyopinion,beforewemakethechoice,weneedtothinktwice.WhatkindofjobdoIreallywanttodo?Doesthejobrequirepracticalworkexperienceortheoreticalknowledge?CanthegraduateprogramofferwhatIwanttolearn?Ourfinaldecisionshouldbebasedonourpersonalsituations.
4.TheSecondProfessionWiththequickenedreformpacetakingupsecondprofessionshasbecomeanewtrendinallwalksoflife.Nowmoreandmorepeoplearetakingpart-timejobswhichhasconsitituedaseriousthreattofirstprofessions.Manypeoplefeelpositiveabouttheincreasingnumberofpeoplepursuingsecondprofessions.Theysaythisisanaturaloutgrowthofthechangingeconomyandgrowingmarketdemands.Somepeoplecanfullyusetheirenergyandtime.Peoplealsowanttoincreasetheirincomewithoutlosingthebenefitsofthe"iron-bowl".Howeversomepeoplethinkthetrendalsocreatesproblems.Forexampleifateachertakesupasecondprofessionitwouldbeunlikelythathecanguranteethehighteachingquality.Afterallschoolisaplaceforeducationandateacher'scareshouldbethestudentsnotmoney.PersonallyIthinktakingupthesecondprofessioncanquickenthepaceofeconomicdevelopmentenrichourexperienceandincreaseourincome.Howeveritisnotadvisabletospendtoomuchtimeonitbecauseweneedtimetostudyfurtherandimproveourskillsseastocarryoutthedutyofourfirstprofessionwell.Neveroverreachourselvestofollowthefashion.AsSamuelJohnsonsaid"Nomaneveryetbecamegreatbyimitation."TheSecondProfessionWiththequickenedreform.pace,takingupsecondprofessionshasbecomeanewtrendinallwalksoflife.Nowmoreandmorepeoplearetakingpart-timejobs,whichhasconsitituedaseriousthreattofirstprofessions.Manypeoplefeelpositiveabouttheincreasingnumberofpeoplepursuingsecondprofessions.Theysaythisisanaturaloutgrowthofthechangingeconomyandgrowingmarketdemands.Somepeoplecanfullyusetheirenergyandtime.Peoplealsowanttoincreasetheirincomewithoutlosingthebenefitsofthe"iron-bowl".However,somepeoplethinkthetrendalsocreatesproblems.Forexample,ifateachertakesupasecondprofession,itwouldbeunlikelythathecanguranteethehighteachingquality.Afterall,schoolisaplaceforeducation,andateacher'scareshouldbethestudents,notmoney.Personally,Ithinktakingupthesecondprofessioncanquickenthepaceofeconomicdevelopment,enrichourexperienceandincreaseourincome.However,itisnotadvisabletospendtoomuchtimeonit,becauseweneedtimetostudyfurtherandimproveourskillsseastocarryoutthedutyofourfirstprofessionwell.Neveroverreachourselvestofollowthefashion.AsSamuelJohnsonsaid,"Nomaneveryetbecamegreatbyimitation."
