neighborshelpeachotherprepareGuo.Whileadultswerebusypouringflouron

thecuttingboard,pressingthepasteflatandmouldingitintobeautifulshape,

kidswouldrunaroundinthevillage’sancestraltempleandimmerseourselvesin

theenchantingandcheerfulsmellofholiday.

Havinglivedinthecityforthefollowingtenyears,Ialwaysfeelthe

changeshappeninginmyhometowneverytimeIgoback--thevillagelooks

surprisinglysimilartothecoastalcitywhereIlive!TheopeningfieldwhereI

bakedpotatoeswasleveledandamanufacturingfactoryhasbeenbuiltthere,

blockingthesunlightofouryard.Theancestraltemplehasbeentorndownand

isnowasmallsupermarketforvillagers.Thenumberofpeopleknowinghowto

prepareGuoisdiminishingandyoungpeopleseemtobemoreinterestedinfast

foodandobliviousoftraditionalartsandskills.Thevillageseemsquiteempty

thelinkwithouroriginsandancestors.Whenwe’resurroundedbyskyscrapers

andneonglamour,whatdefinesusasChineseUrbanizationdoesnotmean

brutallyencroachinguponthecountrysideandstranglingruralculture.It
