GlendaandRaphaelSavitzmetin2011.ThoughGlendahadgrownupinsouthernCalifornia,she’dmovedtoBostontogetafreshviewonthings.Itwasverynearly“l(fā)oveatfirstsight”andoverthenexttwoyears,theydevelopedahealthyandhappyrelationship.Theymarriedin2013andmovedtoAuburndalethreeyearslater.

TheSavitzswhomovedtoNewtonhadfoundthemselveswelcomedintotheneighborhoodwithtrulyopenarms.Theneighborhoodthey’dmovedtowasthetypeofplacewhereyou’dbehappytoraiseafamily.

JillMcNeil,oneoftheneighbors,isnostrangertofriendlyandcloseneighborhoods.ShewashappywhensheandherhusbandfoundNewton.

Havingalreadyhadtwochildrenoftheirown,Jillwasexcitedtohearthatanewbabywascomingintotheneighborhood.Therewasjustoneproblem…

Glendawaspregnant(懷孕的)beforethemoveandwithinthreemonths,theygavebirthtoSamantha.Unfortunately,somethingwaswrong.AweekorsooftestsshowedthatlittleSamanthahadbeenborncompletelydeaf.TheSavitzswerecompletelyshockedandtheyknewthatraisingSamanthawasgoingtotakeseriousworkandcommitment.TheneighborhoodwasstillexcitedtowelcomelittleSamantha,ofcourse,buttheyknewitwasadifficultsituationforherparents.“YouseeSamandit’ssadnottobeabletosay,‘Oh,Iloveyourprettypinktrousers.’Wewantedtotakethataway.Wedidn’twantthemtohavethatextrastruggleiftherewasanythingwecoulddoaboutit.”Jillexplained.

Jillandtheotherneighborswantedtodosomethingtomakethingseasierforthefamily.

AsSamanthawasonlyaweekoldatthetime,theytooksometimetomakeadecision.Finally,theydecidedtolearnsignlanguageasagroupinordertocommunicatewithSamanthaasshegrew.Paragraph1:Jillandtheneighborhoodhadhiredasignlanguageinstructoratthestartofwinter._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
