1、核心情態(tài)動(dòng)詞論文：英語核心情態(tài)動(dòng)詞的歷時(shí)語義演變研究【中文摘要】作為情態(tài)表達(dá)的重要手段之一，情態(tài)動(dòng)詞不論在口 語中還是在筆語中都得到了廣泛的應(yīng)用，其作用有目共睹，不可或缺。 顧名思義,情態(tài)動(dòng)詞表示說話人對有關(guān)行為或事物的態(tài)度和看法，認(rèn)為其可能、應(yīng)該或必要等；不但其本身具有一定的詞義，而且能為謂語 動(dòng)詞增添情態(tài)色彩。盡管一直以來情態(tài)動(dòng)詞被歸屬到助動(dòng)詞的范疇之 中,但是學(xué)者們普遍認(rèn)為情態(tài)動(dòng)詞是由完全動(dòng)詞或?qū)嵙x動(dòng)詞演變而來 并隨著時(shí)代的進(jìn)步和發(fā)展，發(fā)生了頗為明顯的語義轉(zhuǎn)變。著名學(xué)者 Coates和Palmer都指出了現(xiàn)代英語情態(tài)動(dòng)詞呈現(xiàn)出多義性和模糊性 的特征,并強(qiáng)調(diào)理解情態(tài)動(dòng)詞的關(guān)鍵在于理解其不確

2、定性?；诙?學(xué)者對情態(tài)動(dòng)詞語義的劃分，本文選擇英語情態(tài)動(dòng)詞這一范疇中的五 個(gè)核心成員MAY, CAN, MUST, WILL和SHALL乍為研究對象開展歷時(shí) 性研究，旨在弄清楚以下幾個(gè)問題：其一，每個(gè)情態(tài)動(dòng)詞的核心語義演 變過程是什么？其二，這五個(gè)核心情態(tài)動(dòng)詞的演變規(guī)律有沒有什么共 性？其三,產(chǎn)生語義演變的動(dòng)因和機(jī)制是什么？在本文的研究中，作者 首先將英語的發(fā)展史分為了四個(gè)歷史階段，并針對每一階段自建了包 含文學(xué)、政治、法律、演講、訪談等各方面內(nèi)容的語料庫，然后進(jìn)行定性定量的分析：一是使用【英文摘要】 As one of important and effective devices fo
