1、should 一 . should , shall 的過(guò)去式,可以在間接引語(yǔ)中與第一人稱主語(yǔ)搭配,表示過(guò)去將來(lái)時(shí)間。例如: The group leader announced that we should (= would ) begin to work soon. A week ago, I told him that I should (= would) go to Beijing the next day. 二 . should 情態(tài)動(dòng)詞,通常用來(lái)表示現(xiàn)在或?qū)?lái)的責(zé)任或義務(wù),譯作“應(yīng)該”、“應(yīng)當(dāng)”,這時(shí)它可以和 ought to, be supposed to 互換使用。例如: You

2、 should (= are supposed to ) complete your test in time. 你們應(yīng)該按時(shí)做完你們的實(shí)驗(yàn)。 You should (= ought to ) tell your mother about it at once. 你應(yīng)該立即把此事告訴你媽媽。 三 . should 情態(tài)動(dòng)詞, 用在條件狀語(yǔ)從句中,表示語(yǔ)氣較強(qiáng)的假設(shè),譯作“萬(wàn)一”、“竟然”; 可將 should 置于從句之首,即將 should 放在主語(yǔ)前面,而省略從屬連詞 if .例如: If you should fail to come, ask Mrs Chen to work in y

3、our place. (= Should you fail to come, ask Mrs Chen to work in your place. ) 萬(wàn)一你來(lái)不了,就叫陳夫人代替你。 If it should rain tomorrow, I wouldnt go. (= Should it rain tomorrow, I wouldnt go.) 萬(wàn)一明天天下雨,我就不去了。 四 . should 作為情態(tài)動(dòng)詞,可以表示謙遜、客氣、委婉之意,譯為“可”、“倒”。例如: I should say that it would be better to try it again. 我倒是認(rèn)為

4、最好再試一試。 You are mistaken, I should say. 據(jù)我看,你搞錯(cuò)了。 He should expect their basketball team to win the match. 他倒是希望他們的籃球隊(duì)贏得這場(chǎng)比賽的勝利。 五 . should 作為情態(tài)動(dòng)詞,可以用來(lái)表示意外、驚喜或者在說(shuō)話人看來(lái)是不可思議的。尤其在以 why, who, how 等開頭的修辭疑問(wèn)句或某些感嘆句中常常譯為“竟會(huì)”、“居然”。例如: How should I know it ? 我怎么會(huì)知道這件事? Why should you be so late today ? 你今天怎么來(lái)

I dont see any reason why he shouldnt be happy. 我不明白為什么他居然不愉快。 六 . should 作為情態(tài)動(dòng)詞,可以用來(lái)表示有較大可能實(shí)現(xiàn)的猜測(cè)、推論,通常譯為“可能”、“總該吧”,相當(dāng)于 be expected to .例如: They should be home by now, I think. 我想現(xiàn)在他們總該到家了吧。 The report was wr

6、itten after a careful investigation, so it should be reliable. 這份報(bào)告是經(jīng)過(guò)周密調(diào)查后才寫成的,所以應(yīng)該是可靠的。 七 . should 作為情態(tài)動(dòng)詞,用在由 so that, for fear that, lest 引導(dǎo)的目的狀語(yǔ)從句和 in case (that) 引導(dǎo)的條件狀語(yǔ)從句中,有“能夠”、“可能”、“會(huì)”之意。例如: He is working hard for fear that he should fall behind others. 他努力工作,唯恐落在別人后面。 We went over the docum

8、rain tomorrow, the sports meeting would be put off. = Should it rain tomorrow/ Were it to rain tomorrow, the sports meeting would be put off. 如果明天天下雨,運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)就會(huì)延期舉行。 2. 用在 suggest (propose), arrange, plan, decide, advise, order, demand, request, desire, insist 等表示“建議”、“要求”、“命令”、“決定”、“安排”、“計(jì)劃”、“主張”的動(dòng)詞后面接的

9、賓語(yǔ)從句中。這里的 should 也可以省略。例如: He suggested/ proposed/ demanded/ advised that they (should) read the rules carefully. 他建議 / 提議 / 要求 / 勸告他們要仔細(xì)閱讀這些規(guī)則。 The doctor ordered that she (should) stay in bed for another week. 醫(yī)生囑咐她再臥床休息一個(gè)星期。 He insisted that we (should )take up the matter at the meeting. 他堅(jiān)持要我們?cè)跁?huì)

10、上提出這個(gè)問(wèn)題。 3. 用在“ It is desired/ suggested/ requested/ ordered/ proposed/ decided ”之后由 that 引導(dǎo)的主語(yǔ)從句中, should 也可以省略。例如: It is requested that Miss Yang (should) give a performance at the party. 人們要求楊小姐在聚會(huì)上表演一個(gè)節(jié)目。 It has been arranged (planned) that they (should) leave the following week. 已經(jīng)安排(計(jì)劃)讓他們下星期動(dòng)

11、身。 It has been decided that the meeting (should) be postponed till next Saturday. 已經(jīng)決定會(huì)議推遲到下周六舉行。 4. 用在 suggestion, motion, proposal, order, plan, idea, advice, request, decision, requiry 等名詞后面接的表語(yǔ)從句或同位語(yǔ)從句中, should 也可以省略。例如: We all agreed to his suggestion (proposal) that we (should) go to Nanjing f

12、or a visit. 我們都同意他提出的要我們到南京去游覽的建議。( should 用于同位語(yǔ)從句中) My idea/ motion/ advice/ is that we (should) do more eye exercises every day. 我的意見(jiàn)是我們每天應(yīng)該多做眼保健操。( should 用于表語(yǔ)從句中) 5. 用在“ It is / was necessary/ important/ strange/ incredible ”或“ It is a pity/ a shame/ no wonder ”之后由 that 引導(dǎo)的主語(yǔ)從句中, should 有“應(yīng)該”、“必

13、須”、“竟然”、“居然”之意。例如: It is necessary that he (should) be sent there at once. 有必要馬上派他到那里去。 It is strange that the wheel should turn so slowly. 真奇怪,這個(gè)輪子竟然轉(zhuǎn)動(dòng)得如此之慢。 It is a great pity/ shame/ that he should be so conceited. 真遺憾,他竟會(huì)這樣自高自大。 九 . “ should have + - ed 分詞”結(jié)構(gòu)用來(lái)表達(dá)下述意義: 1. 表示“應(yīng)該已經(jīng)”,“本來(lái)應(yīng)該”,即過(guò)去該做某事但

14、實(shí)際沒(méi)有做,其否定式“ shouldnt have + - ed 分詞”意為“本來(lái)不應(yīng)該”。例如: These cells should have been kept in somedry places. 這些電池本來(lái)應(yīng)該放(保存)在干燥的地方。(但實(shí)際上沒(méi)有把它們放在干燥的地方。) You shouldnt have dept those cells in the damp place. 你本來(lái)不該把那些電池放在潮濕的地方。(但實(shí)際上已經(jīng)把它們放到潮濕的地方了。) 2. 表示“(估計(jì))應(yīng)該已經(jīng)”,“大概已經(jīng)”,即對(duì)過(guò)去情況的推測(cè)。例如: They left at nine, so they

15、should have arrived (= probably have arrived) home by now. 他們是九點(diǎn)鐘走的,現(xiàn)在應(yīng)該已經(jīng)到家了。 They should have finished their work, for they began to do it so early. 他們很早就開始工作,現(xiàn)在大概已經(jīng)干完了。 3. 意為“竟然已經(jīng)”,“居然已經(jīng)”,即表示說(shuō)話人對(duì)已經(jīng)出現(xiàn)的事態(tài)感到“驚奇、驚喜、懷疑”。例如: Im surprised that he should have been so foolish. 我很奇怪,他竟然會(huì)這么傻。 Im amazed that Mr Harris should have said nothing about the matter. 這件事,哈里斯先生竟然只字未提,對(duì)此我大為驚異。 It is wonderful that you should have achieved so much these years. 這幾年你竟然取得如此大的成就,你真了不起。 此外, should 還可以出現(xiàn)在“ should be doing sth ”或“ should have been doing sth ”等句式中,表示“應(yīng)該正在”或表示說(shuō)話人
