冀教版八年級(jí)上學(xué)期英語(yǔ)期中考試試卷A卷一、 閱讀理解 (共4題;共34分)1. (8分)閱讀理解 To me, the concept (概念) of home changes along with my age all the time.In my childhood, home was a number of calls. It seems that I had more free time than todays children. I didnt have to show up in front of my parents right after school, instead I would go to play with my classmates who lived in the neighborhood. We played like mad until dinner was ready and our parents called Come back! Come home for supper!Days passed by as I grew up in the company of those calls which are still echoing in my ears even now.In a short while, my childhood was gone. When a thin layer of hair began to grow around the corners of my mouth, home became a place I tried to run away from.As I read more and more, my world opened up, larger than before. The bed I used to sleep in became too small, and words of care from my parents began to sound meaningless. How I wished I could have a space of my own some day! Later I joined the army and put on the green uniform. During my service days, home was the series of letters I received one after another. My most homesick moments were when I read those letters from my family. When I got a job, I began to get hurt, to rise and fall in a sea of people, and to understand that you cant share all your pains with other people, even with your best friends. So again, another wave of homesickness came over me. When I was badly hurt, I imagined myself flying home on wings. Pushing open the door, I let tears flow down my face. At that moment I felt that as large as the world was, what I needed was only the familiar smell of home and the unchanged view outside the window of my old house.Although I already have much life experience behind me, I know there is still a long way ahead and my concept of home will go on developing. But already I have come to see that home is where we can find the true meaning of all the busy rush life. What makes the concept different is that sometimes it refers to a persons home and sometimes to the home of many, many people.(1)What does the underlined word company mean in Chinese in Paragraph 2? Since lemons are thought to be bitter(苦的)and lemonade sweet, the saying tells you to make the best out of a bad situation.Unluckily, when something bad happens, its not uncommon for most people to talk about it to anyone wholl listen, and complain about life, Why me? Thats like getting a bag of lemons, putting them down, and thinking, Lemons taste bad! Id rather have chocolate! If you dont make anything with the lemons, they will go bad. But what if you did something with them? What if you made lemonade? Isnt it possible to do something similar with a bad situation?Heres an example: Lets say youre about to go to the movie, but you discover you have a flat tire(癟胎).You think it a terrible thin. After all, you are really looking forward to spending some time with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Now youre all stressed out, hating the tire, the car, and your life. But what if you called AAA, got your tire fixed or got caught up on things that youd been meaning to do? What if you did some reading, or had coffee with a friend instead? As awful experience can be turned into something better. You cant change what has happened, right? So make the best of it. Im not saying it will be easy. The easy thing to do is complain about your bad situation and not think about what it could be turned into.Next time when some bad things happen, stop and think, How can I turn this around? How can I make it a nice experience? You neednt fear difficulties. As long as you keep on changing it, you will see the good at last.(1)What do we know about the saying in Paragraph 1? A . It is encouraging.B . It is humorous.C . It is amazing.D . It is interesting.(2)What does most people usually do when something bad happens? A . Accept it.B . Ask for help.C . Complain about it.D . Find out the reasons.(3)The writer uses the example of seeing a movie to tell us . A . a flat tire happens sometimesB . it is all right to make mistakesC . it is a very wonderful thing to meet film starsD . bad things can be turned into good things3. (19分)任務(wù)型閱讀 In common with many countries, Britain has serious environmental problems. In 1952, more than 4,000 people died in London because of the smog. The government introduced new laws to stop smog from coal fires and factories and the situation improved a lot. Today, London is much cleaner but there is a new problem: smog from cars. Part of the problem is the new out of town shopping centers. In the past, people often walked to shops near their home. Now, many people drive to the new shopping centers. So, the small shops have disappeared and more people have to travel to do their shopping. Critics (批評(píng)家) think that Britain needs cheaper public transport. An early morning train trip from Glasgow to London (about 600km) can cost about 100, for example. A 15-minute bus trip can cost over 1. 00. Many people are trying to reduce the use of cars in Britain. Some cities now have special bicycle paths and many people cycle to work. Some people also travel to work together in one car to reduce the pollution and the cost.
