Unit 3 How do you get to school?Section A (2a-2e)一、 guiding principles:1. teaching principles:(1) to arouse students interest in English and cultivate their confidence in learning English, (2) to help students form the idea of learning on their own as well as cooperating with others,(3) to improve students listening knowledge ability and language skills, and to cultivate students creativity, imagination and critical thinking,(4) to foster healthy views on life and let them realize the differences between different cultures as well as different languages. 2. Teaching Goals: 1. Knowledge goals: (1) Words and phrases: words related to means of transportation like train, bus, subway, etc. numeral such as sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, hundred; verb phrases such as get to, take the subway, ride a bike, etc. (2) Target languages:Howdoyougettoschool?Iridemybike.How far is it from your home to school?The bus ride takes about 20 minutes.How long does it take to get to school?It takes about 15 minutes. 2. Ability goals:Improve students speaking and listening skills.Talkabouthowtogettoplaces.Have students learn how to talk about using different means of transportation. 3. Emotion goals:Help students to learn different traffic rules in western countries and teach them to obey traffic rules. Develop students awareness in travelling safely. 3. Teaching key and difficult points:Key points: have students to be able to talk with others about how to get to places and the time they use and the distance.Difficult points: have students pose questions on ways to get to places, distance and the time used. 4. Duty report.The student will introduce to us where his home is and how he goes to school every day.Questions: Where is his home? How far is it from his home to school? How long does it take to get to school?. Review.Greet the students and ask students “How do you get to school every day”, and then in turn ask another student “How does she/he get to school every day?”. Listening. (work on 2b)1. Review numbers: zero-nine, ten-nineteen, twenty, thirty, fortytwenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three2. Play the recording for the students to finish 2a, and then check the answers. 3. Ask students to summarize the rules to form numerals like twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three etc. . Presentation.1. (show a picture on the slide and ask students to identify schools and homes and then introduce new words and phrases: how long, how far). Introduce the new sentence patterns to students. When we ask about the distance of two places, we use “how far is it from to ?” when we want to know about how much time we need to get to a place from another, we use “How long does it take from to ?” Key patterns: How you get to ? I take the to /I get to by How long does it take from A to B? It takes about minutes/hours. How far is it from A to B? It is meters/kilometers. 1. Production. 1. Ask students to work in pairs to talk about how they get to schools and the times they use and the distance using key sentence patterns and then ask them to present their conversations to the class. 2. The teacher set up different scenarios: Scenario 1: the student is going to Kaiyuan Shopping Mall to shop for some clothes. How does he/she get there? How long does it take? How far is it from his/her home to Kaiyuan Shopping Mall. Scenario 2: the student is going to the Xian yang International Airport to fly to Beijing. How does he get to the airport? How does it take? How far?Target language: I take the to It is kilometers from my home to It takes me about to get to A few students are asked to present the scenario. Other students are welcomed to pick faults in their speaking. . Practice.Ask students to read the dialogue in 2e in different characters. And they encourage them to role play the dialogue. . Summary.Summarize the key structures in the dialogues in this period again. Emphasize the key points in the sentence structures and the mistakes the students frequently make. Ask students to read the key sentence structures on the blackboard again.
