A small, happy little dog learned about this place and decided to visit. When he arrived, he bounced (跳) happily up the stairs and to the doorway of the house. He looked through the doorway. His ears lifted up, and his tail wagged as fast as it could. To his great surprise, he found himself looking at 1,000 other happy little dogs with their tails wagging just as fast as his. He smiled a great smile and was answered with 1,000 great smiles that were just as warm and friendly. As he left the house, he thought to himself: “This is a wonderful place. I will come back to visit often.” In this same village, another little dog, who was not quite as happy as the other one, decided to visit the house. He slowly climbed the stairs and hung (垂下) his head low as he looked into the doorway. When he saw the 1,000 unfriendly-looking dogs looking back at him, he growled at them. He was afraid when he saw 1,000 little dogs growling back. As he left, he thought to himself: “That is a terrible place. I will never go back there again.”All the faces in the world are mirrors of you. What kind of reflections (反映) do you see in the faces of people you meet?26. BIn a world where there are nearly 6,000 different languages, it is easy to get lost in translation (翻譯). The further away from home you get, the more the languages around you change. But, have you ever noticed any similarities?Language studies have shown that the words for “Mama” and “Papa” around the world are surprisingly similar. It was believed the similarities might be because several languages started to develop from one language called Proto-Indo-European (原始印歐語(yǔ)系). It is the origin of many languages that are currently (當(dāng)前) spoken throughout Europe. In France they say “maman” and “papa” and in Norway they say “mamma” and “papa”.However, this does not explain why there are similarities outside of Europe, such as “nanay” and “tatay” in the Philippines as well as in some Chinese dialects(方言). So what could cause this similarity around the world?Russian-American linguist (語(yǔ)言學(xué)家) Roman Jakobson has a possible explanation.“If youre a baby making a random sound, the easiest vowel (元音) is ah because you can make it without doing anything with your tongue or lips,” he said. “M” and “n” are also created easily by opening and closing the mouth, so these sounds often develop next. In a similar way, the sounds closely related to father such as “p”, “d” and “t” develop when children play with the sounds available to them. This could be the reason why, around the world, a childs first words are often related to ma or pa”, leading parents to be called “mama” and “papa”.30. Which of the following is NOT true?A. There are about 6,000 different languages in the world.B. The further away from home, the more difficult the languages get.C. “Mama” and “Papa” around the world sound similar.D. Proto-Indo-European is the origin of many languages.31. What does the underlined word “random” mean in Chinese?A. 隨意的B. 吸引人的C. 響亮的D. 吵鬧的32. Which one is quite different from the others in the way of making sounds?A. ah B. p C. d D. t33. What does the story mainly talk about?A. The origin of languages.B. How babies make sounds.C. Differences between different languages.D. Why some words in different languages are similar. CYouve probably heard of American baseball and basketball, but how much do you know about American football?American football started in the United States back in 1869 and is one of the most popular sports in the US today.3.Parts of American football actually came from rugby (英式橄欖球), a popular sport around the world. Like in rugby, there are two teams trying to get the ball, and they can either kick (踢) the ball through the goalposts (球門柱) or run the ball into the goal area.4.But thats where the similarities end. Players wear football pads (襯墊) and helmets (頭盔) to protect themselves. The ball is smaller than a rugby ball, and the rules can be very hard to follow if you dont know them.In 1985, professional (職業(yè)的) football passed baseball as the most popular US sport, according to a Harris Interactive poll. And it has stayed at the number one sport since then.Football in the United States is not just a sport, but it plays a part in American culture. For Thanksgiving, families will get together, eat, and give thanks, but its also known as a major day to watch football. Football organizers are working to spread (推廣) the sport across Europe and Asia. And professional football teams bring the entire nation together every year for the Super Bowl (超級(jí)碗美式足球聯(lián)盟年度冠軍賽).However, its biggest fans remain in North America.34. Which of the following about American football is NOT true?A. It started in the United States.B. It has a history of nearly 150 years.C. It is more popular outside of the US than it is in the US.D. It plays a role in American culture.35. What are Paragraphs 3 and 4 mainly about?A. Rugby is the most popular sport around the world.B. American football is more difficult to learn and play.C. American football has the same rules as rugby.D. There are similarities and differences between America football and rugby.36. According to the passage, common activities on Thanksgiving in the US include the following EXCEPT _.A. showing thanks to othersB. getting together with familiesC. watching football matchesD. watching the Super Bowl game DA young man is walking in the desert and comes across some delicious crystal clear water. He fills his canteen (水壺) so he can bring some back to his teacher. After a four-day journey he presents the water to an old man. The old man takes a long drink, smiles warmly and thanks his student for the water. The young man returns to his village with a happy heart.Later, the teacher lets another student taste the water. He spits (吐) it out, saying it is awful. It is no longer fresh because of the old leather (皮革的) canteen. The student asks the teacher: “Master, the water is terrible. Why did you pretend (假裝) to like it?”The teacher replies: “You only tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was an act of loving-kindness and nothing could be sweeter.”Now we understand this lesson best when we receive gifts of love from others. Whether its a ceramic tray (陶瓷托盤) or a macaroni bracelet (通心粉手鐲), the natural and proper response (反應(yīng)) is appreciation and expressed thankfulness because we love the idea within the gift. After all, gifts from the heart are really gifts of the heart. We should remind ourselves and teach our children about the beauty of feelings and expressions of gratitude.Gratitude (感恩) doesnt always come naturally. Unfortunately, many people value only the thing given, rather than the feeling embodied in it.37. The phrase “come across” in paragraph 1 means “_”.A. send for B. run into C. get into D. give up38. The student thought the water was _ after trying it.A. terrible B. sweet C. tasty D. fresh39. Why did the teacher pretend to like the water?A. Because he hadnt had water for a long time.B. Because he wished to get one more gift from the student.C. Because he could feel the act of love from the water.D. Because he knew water went bad in leather canteens.40. What does the story teach us?A. Every gift has its special story B. Everything is nice with a grateful heart.C. Its better to accept a gift with a smiling face.D. Its better to prepare a gift with all of your heart.四詞匯運(yùn)用(每小題1分,共15分)A.用方框中所給單詞的適當(dāng)形式填空,每個(gè)單詞限用一次。true talent serious say little 41.My father is _in playing soccer, he always does well in it.42.I need a friend who _cares about me.43.There is nothing _ with the little boy ,he will feel better soon.44.Do you know the _“Love me, love my dog.”?45.He is_ hard-working than me, although he is smarter than me.B.根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容和所給漢語(yǔ)提示,寫出短文空白處各單詞的正確形式。(每空限填一詞)When I was young , I always enjoyed playing with my friends.
