He wanted to call attention to the mistreatment of sharks. His 2007 film, Sharkwater, documents the cruel practice of removing sharks fins (鰭) for money and leaving the animals to die. In his latest documentary, Revolution, Stewart takes on an even bigger challenge: climate change. The Canadian filmmaker says that climate change has harmed people and places everywhere: “It is stronger than any government or organization. If we educate people, they will make better decisions about protecting natural resources.”According to a recent report on climate change, “The atmosphere and ocean have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have reduced, and the sea levels have risen.” These developments are endangering crops, wildlife, fish, and even people.Stewart says that the consequences of climate change will be irreversible unless people take action, especially young people. “Its up to kids to be the moral compass (道德指南) of society,” he believes, “and say, Guys, this is not right.”Many kids took action after seeing Sharkwater. Elementary school students in the Northern Mariana Islands, for example, got their local government to ban the sale of shark fins.Felix Finkbeiner, 17, of Germany is also part of the “revolution” to save the planet. In 2007, Felix started a youth group called PlantforthePlanet, whose motto is “Stop Talking. Start Planting.” The group raises money to plant trees. So far, PlantforthePlanet has planted nearly 200 trees around the world. “Future generations are the ones who will be suffering the most from inaction (無作為),” Felix says. His goal is to plant millions of additional trees.“When we started four years ago,” Felix tells Stewart in Revolution, “we thought we had to save the polar bear. We thought we had to save the environment. But soon after, we found out that its about our future, that we have to save our own future.” 4What can we learn about Rob Stewart?AHe cares about the environment.BHe likes taking challenging jobs.CHe spends most of his time traveling.DHe made his first film four years ago. 5What does the underlined word “irreversible” in Paragraph 4 mean?AEasy to accept.BHard to notice.CImpossible to change.DUnnecessary to worry about. The study from psychologists Sian Beilock and Susan Levine shows a marked increase in math achievement among children whose families used Bedtime Math, an iPad app that delivers engaging math story problems for parents and children to solve together.Even children who used the app with their parents as little as once a week saw gains in math achievement by the end of the school year. The apps effect was especially strong for children whose parents tend to be anxious or uncomfortable with math.Previous research from this group has demonstrated the importance of adults attitudes to math for childrens math success. For example, a recent study found that mathanxious parents who help their children with math homework actually weaken their childrens math achievement. The new findings demonstrate that structured, positive interactions around math at home can cut the link between parents uneasiness about math and childrens low math chievement.“Many people experience high levels of anxiety when they have to solve a math problem, with a majority of adults feeling at least some worries about math,” said Beilock, professor in psychology and author of Choke, a book about stress and performance. “These mathanxious parents are probably less likely to talk about math at home, which affects how competent their children are in math. Bedtime Math encourages a dialogue between parents and kids about math and offers a way to engage in highquality math interactions in a loweffort, highimpact way. ”Study participants included 587 firstgrade students and their parents. Families were given an iPad installed with a version of the Bedtime Math app, with which parents and their children read stories and answer questions involving math, including topics like counting, shapes and problemsolving. A control group received a reading app that had similar stories without the math content and questions related to reading comprehension instead. Childrens math achievement was assessed at the beginning and end of the school year. Parents completed a questionnaire about their nervousness with math. The more times parents and children in the math group used the app, the higher childrens achievement on a math assessment at the end of the school year. Indeed, children who frequently used the math app with their parents outperformed similar students in the reading group by almost three months in math achievement at years end.語篇解讀:Bedtime Math是一款應(yīng)用軟件。使用該軟件,家長和孩子可以在睡前享受故事的同時,一起解決故事中所提出的數(shù)學(xué)趣題,從而提高孩子的數(shù)學(xué)成績。8Bedtime Math is an iPad app that _.Arequires parents and children to answer reading comprehension questionsBassesses childrens math achievement and parents nervousness with mathCencourages children together with their parents to solve math story problemsDteaches children how to count, recognize shapes and solve practical problems解析:選C細節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第一段第二句中的“Bedtime Math, an iPad app that delivers engaging math story problems for parents and children to solve together”可知,Bedtime Math是一款應(yīng)用軟件,該軟件鼓勵孩子和家長共同解決故事中提出的數(shù)學(xué)問題,故C項正確。9The previous study found that _.Ahelp from mathanxious parents improves childrens math achievementBinteractions around math at home will cut off the family relationshipCchildrens math achievement is related to parents attitude to mathDchildren can achieve more success if they see the importance of math解析:選C細節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第三段的第一句“Previous research from this group has demonstrated the importance of adults attitudes to math for childrens math success”可知,先前的研究發(fā)現(xiàn),孩子數(shù)學(xué)成績的好壞同父母對數(shù)學(xué)的態(tài)度有關(guān),故C項正確。10We can infer from the passage that _.Ait is the math problems related to the stories that make a great differenceBchildren whose parents are uneasy about math are superior to other studentsCparents using the app for three months can see gains in math achievementDthe frequency of using the app has nothing to do with childrens achievement解析:選A推理判斷題。根據(jù)倒數(shù)第二段的第二句“Families were given an iPad installed with a version of the Bedtime Math app, with which parents and their children read stories and answer questions involving math, including topics like counting, shapes and problemsolving”可知,Bedtime Math 的關(guān)鍵是里面含有與數(shù)學(xué)相關(guān)的故事;據(jù)此可以判斷,父母和孩子一起討論與數(shù)學(xué)有關(guān)的故事是保證孩子數(shù)學(xué)成功的關(guān)鍵,故A項正確。11What does the author want to tell us?AHighanxiety parents influence childrens attitude to math.BFrequent use of the app can develop problemsolving ability.CLoweffort activities create good parentchild relationship.DHighquality math interactions improve childrens performance.解析:選D目的意圖題。根據(jù)第五段的“Bedtime Math encourages .engage in highquality math interactions in a loweffort, highimpact way”可知,Bedtime Math軟件提高孩子數(shù)學(xué)成績的關(guān)鍵是讓父母和孩子在高效率的互動中一起解決數(shù)學(xué)問題;據(jù)此可以判斷,高質(zhì)量的有關(guān)數(shù)學(xué)的互動可以提高孩子的成績,故D項正確。DFor many years, people have watched wild animals doing tricks in circuses and marine parks. Elephants parade around a noisy arena. They impress the crowd with tricks they have been forced to learn things theyd never do in the wild.At marine parks, orca whales measuring up to 25 feet long and weighing thousands of pounds splash (濺出水花) out of the water and do amazing tricks, drawing cheers from the audience.Sure, its fun to watch these wild animals up close but many people wonder if its really fair to the animals? After all, an orca whale in the wild has the entire ocean as a home. They live in family groups and may travel 100 miles in a day. Is living alone swimming around in circles in a small pool a good life for an orca?In the wild, elephants also live in close family groups. They travel long distances to find food. Theyre very smart and look after each other and play together things they cant do as circus performers.Today, more and more people are saying that things should change. They believe the animals deserve to live a more natural life and not be used for entertainment. And now some companies are beginning to listen. In March 2015, Ringling Bros, and Barnum and Bailey announced that they would no longer use elephant acts in their circuses. And on May 1, 2016, the elephants performed their last show, signaling an end to a long history of elephants in circuses and traveling shows.A year after the Ringling announcement, SeaWorld Theme Parks promised to give the orcas in their parks a better life as well. The company announced that it would begin to phase_out shows featuring orcas performing tricks. Instead, they will highlight (突出) more of the whales natural behaviors. SeaWorld also said they wouldnt add any more captive (被俘的) orcas to their parks. These are first steps toward putting an end to using captive wildlife for entertainment. And these changes were made after many people spoke out loud and clear to say that wild animals deserve to live wild and free.語篇解讀:本文是議論文。馬戲團里的野生動物表演為觀眾帶來了很多樂趣,然而這種強迫動物表演雜技的做法對動物公平嗎?12Why does the author mention elephants and orca whales in the first two paragraphs?ATo introduce the subject.BTo show they are very smart.CTo stress the great fun they bring us.DTo encourage readers to watch animal shows.解析:選A推理判斷題。作者在第一、二段中提到大象和虎鯨表演雜技動作,引來觀眾的歡呼和喝彩,緊接著作者在第三段中寫道“its fun to watch these wild animals up close but many people wonder if its really fair to the animals”由此判斷,作者提到大象和虎鯨的表演是為了引出主題。13What does the author say about circus animal performers?AThey are well treated.BThey lead an unnatural life.CThey are relaxed and carefree.DThey compete with each other.解析:選B推理判斷題。由第一段中的“.they have been forced to learn”和第三、四段中對野生虎鯨和大象及其馬戲團里同伴的生活對比可知,作者認為馬戲團里的動物表演者都過著非自然的生活。14What does the underlined part “phase out” in Paragraph 7 mean?APut on.BFigure out.CGradually stopDCreatively improve.解析:選C詞義猜測題。由第六段中的“they would no longer use elephant acts”和第七段中的“promised to give the orcas .a better life”和“Instead, they will highlight (突出) more of the whales natural behaviors”可知,海洋世界主題公園宣布將會開始逐漸停止虎鯨的表演;由此推斷,phase out意為“逐步淘汰,逐漸停止”。15What would be the best title for the text?ALast chance for animalsBTons of fun: not for everyoneCThe welfare of wild animals in circusesDThe state of entertainment: disappearing acts解析:選B標題歸納題。 Each year, many animal species die out. They join the countless species that have gone extinct (滅絕的) over the course of the earths history and many people believe they disappear forever._16_Now some scientists are focusing on the ability to bring back extinct species. This doesnt mean the plot of Jurassic Park is going to become a reality. The researchers need DNA to clone a species._17_ Dinosaurs have been gone too long for any of their DNA to remain in fossils (化石)But theres a very real chance that we will be able to bring back more recently extinct species. _18_ In 2003, a team of Spanish and French scientists recreated the Pyrenean ibex, which had gone extinct three years earlier. The new animal didnt survive long, but scientific advances could improve the success rate. In January, Australian scientists announced that they were on their way to bringing back the gastric brooding frog. That we can bring species back doesnt mean that we should do that. There may be much benefit of reviving (使復(fù)生) a species, but theres no way to know how it will turn out. _19_ Or might it crowd out existing species? Environmentalists worry that our ability to bring species back might cut down support for the hard work of traditional conservation._20_ If we can correct our mistake, why not use the chance to do that? As Stewart Brand, a businessman and environmentalist, recently said,“Humans have made a huge hole in nature. We have the ability now to repair some of that damage.”ADNA is the chemical that carries the structure of a living thing.BIn addition, most people think that the extinction of some animals is really humans mistake.CHowever, some people argue that the extinction of some animals is really our mistake.DThis could even include Ice Age animals like the woolly mammoth.EHowever, you might need to redefine (重新定義) “forever”FThis could even be true to dinosaurs that were extinct long ago.GFor example, would a passenger pigeon fit into its old habitat (棲息地)?答案:1620EADGC.完形填空(共20小題;每小題1.5分,滿分30分)閱讀下面短文,從短文后各題所給的A、B、C和D四個選項中,選出可以填入空白處的最佳選項。The assessor approached a farmhouse.
