蓮花汽車是世界汽車賽場上一個十分有力的競爭者，多次榮獲世界冠軍。1963一1978年蓮花汽車曾經7次蟬聯(lián)世界最佳小客車優(yōu)勝獎。1991年，蓮花伊蘭汽車獲世界汽車最佳設計獎。蓮花汽車公司是率先在汽車上使用高強化塑料車身的廠家之一。它們采用的制模工藝，真空助力樹脂噴射工藝能將車身模制成上下兩個整體，最后再合二為一，不僅生產效率高，而且車身強度大大增強，在世界上獨樹一幟。蓮花汽車公司主要產品有“精靈”、“伊蘭”“卓越”牌運動跑車等。

該公司的標志除蓮花英文字樣外，還有創(chuàng)建人姓名的字頭四個字母（ACBC）組成的圖案。

在汽車工業(yè)史上，蓮花品牌與眾不同。它是英國杰出的工程師柯林·查普曼（ColinChapman）個人奮斗與智慧的結晶。無論是批量生產的跑車還是賽車，他都親自參與設計與研制，傾注了畢生心血。汽車史上的杰出人物查普曼組建了一支驍勇的車隊，在賽場屢建奇功。他在公元20世紀五六十年代設計的蓮花及許多小跑車至今令人懷念。查普曼從零開始，在汽車運動的狂熱驅使下，親手制造自己所心儀的賽車，進而在汽車制造與競賽兩方面都創(chuàng)造了輝煌業(yè)績。這可算世界汽車史上最美的一段佳話。事情起自1947年。十九歲的柯林·查普曼尚在倫敦大學攻讀工程技術，他醉心于汽車比賽，而他的父親是當時奧斯丁汽車的經銷尚，一天他將一輛1930的奧斯丁汽車自己動手改裝成了一輛簡陋的賽車命名MKI，拿來參加英國戰(zhàn)后一度時興的在泥濘的林間角逐的業(yè)余賽車運動。查普曼的自造賽車一舉奪魁，引起人們的關注，并以出售零部件的方式銷售了多輛。設計成功了，當然要給它起個名字。查普曼突發(fā)奇想，就叫它“蓮花”。
