PublicYearfounded:1898Location:HaidianDistrict,Beijing,ChinaPresentPresident:LinJianhuaPekingUniversityseal2021/6/272PekingUniversity'sHistoryOnJuly3,1898,itwasestablishedknownastheImperialUniversityofPeking(京師大學堂).In1912,followingtheXinhaiRevolution,theImperialUniversitywasrenamed“NationalPekingUniversity”(國立北京大學).

CaiYuanpeiwasappointedpresidentonJanuary4,1917,andherecruitedHuShih,ChenDuxiu,andLuXunforteachers.In1919,studentsformedtheprotestersoftheMayFourthMovementladtoCai’sresignation.In1920,PekingUniversitybecamethefirstChineseuniversitytoacceptfemalestudents.In1949,afterthePeople'sRepublicofChinawasestablished,PekingUniversitylostits"national".Theniswasnamed“PekingUniversity”2021/6/273AcademicTheuniversityconsistsof30collegesand12departments,with93specialtiesforundergraduates,2specialtiesforthesecondBachelor'sdegree,199specialtiesforMaster'sdegreecandidatesand173specialtiesfordoctoralcandidates.Pekinguniversityhas216researchinstitutionsandresearchcenters,including2nationalengineeringresearchcenters,81keynationaldisciplines,12nationalkeylaboratories.PekingUniversityhasbeenbecomingacenterforteachingandresearch,consistingofdiversebranchesoflearningsuchaspure&appliedsciences,socialsciences&humanities,andsciencesofmanagement&education.2021/6/274Library

PekingUniversityLibrarywasfoundedin1898.ItisthefirstnewnationallibraryinmodernChina,andisthelargestlibraryinAsia.Thelibrary'scollectionsincludemorethan11millionbooks,8millionpaperbooks,andallkindsofdatabases,electronicjournals,electronicbooksandmultimediaresourcesaboutmorethan3million,1.5millioncopiesabouttheChineseancientbooks,whichistheculturaltreasureoftheChinesenation.2021/6/275NotablepeoplePekingUniversityhasproducedmanynotablepeople,especiallyprominentthinkersinmodernChina.TheseincludefiguressuchasHuShih,LiDazhaoandLuXun.PekingUniversityalsohasthreeNobelPrizewinners,Tsung-DaoLee,YangChenningandTuYouyou.MaoZedong,ChenDuxiu,andLiDazhao,allfoundersoftheCommunistPartyofChina,eithertaughtorheldofficesintheuniversity.2021/6/276李克強ThesefamouspeoplehavebeenstudiedatPeckingUniversitybefore
