spenttimewithagroupoforphans（孤JL）betweentheagesof0and3.Therewasnothingasexcitingas

seeingababytakingherfirststeps,hearingatwoyearoldgirlrepeatallofthelettersinthealphabetafterI

saidthem,seeingalittleboykickorcatchballsofdifferentsizes,andwatchingallofthekidscarefully

washtheirhandsasitbecameahabit.TheseweretheskillsthatIwatchedthechildrendevelopduringmy

timethere.Myheartwasfilledwithpride.

IalsotookpartintheTeachingProjectandworkedinapreschool.Teachingwasmoretiring.Somechildren

werenaughty.Theydidn'talwayslistentome.ButifshardtodescribethejoyIfeltwhenthekidsfinally

understoodwhatIwastryingtoteachthem.

VolunteeringinCapeTownchangedmylife.IthaschangedwhoIamasaperson.Icannotbemoregrateful

forthisamazingexperience.
