ThesizeofimpositionMakingreferencestowhatisconsideredtabootopicsindifferentculturePowerandsocialdistanceCross-culturallydifferentpragmaticgroundrulesItreferstothenotionaboutfreeandnon-freegoods.Freegoodsarethosethatanyonecouldaskwithoutanyelaboratepolitenessstrategies.IntheSovietUnion,wherecigaretteswerealmostfreeandanyonecouldaskforthemwithoutbeingextremelypolite.ThisexamplecanapplytoUkraineasapost-sovietcountry,too.Achildandmenwouldcometohisowngrandfatherforsomecigarettesbecausetheyknewhewasabigsmoker.However,inWesternEuropewherethecigaretteswerequiteexpensive.IfoneRussianorUkrainianasksarandomEuropeanpersononthestreetforonecigarette,itwillbeasociopragmaticfailureasitisnotappropriatethere.ThesizeofimpositionItreferstodifferentstylesofcommunicationbetweenpeopleofdifferentpowerandsocialstatus:forexample,employersandemployees,seniorandyoungpeople,teachersandstudents,etc.PowerandsocialdistanceTabootopics
