WhatYouNeed

1.PreparingYourComputer

(1)Uninstallthedriversandsoftwareofanyaudiocardoronboardaudiochipsetinyourcomputer.

(2)Turnoffyourcomputer.

(3)Disconnectyourcomputer’spowercordfromthewalloutlet,shownasFig.15-1(a).

(4)Touchametalplateonyourcomputertogroundyourselfandtodischargeanystaticelectricity.

(5)Removethecomputercover,shownasFig.15-1(b).

(6)Removeanyaudiocardinyourcomputer.Fig.15-1DisconnectPowerandRemoveCover

2.InstallingHardware

(1)Removeametalbracket,shownasFig.15-2(a).

(2)1AligntheaudiocardwiththePCIslot(shownasFig.15-2(b))andpressthecardgentlybutfirmlyintotheslot(shownasFig.15-3).

Donotforcetheaudiocardintotheslot.Ifitdoesnotfitproperly,gentlyremoveitandtryagain.Fig.15-2RemovemetalbracketFig.15-3PressAudioCard

3.InstallingSoftware

InstallingSoundBlasterAudigy4driversandapplications

(1)Afteryouhaveinstalledyouraudiodevice,turnonyourcomputer.Windowsautomaticallydetectsyouraudiodeviceandsearchesfordevicedrivers.

(2)Whenpromptedfortheaudiodrivers,clicktheCancelbutton.

(3)InserttheInstallationandApplicationsCDintoyourCD-ROM/DVD-ROMdrive.YourCDshouldstartautomatically.Ifitdoesnot,followthestepsbelow:

iStartWindowsExplorer.

iiOntheleftpane,clicktheMyComputericon.

iiiRight-clicktheCDROM/DVDROMdriveicon,andthenclickAutoplay.

(4)Tocompletetheinstallation,followtheinstructionsonthescreen.

(5)Whenprompted,restartyourcomputer.

4.ConnectingSpeakers

Yourspeakershouldcomewiththenecessarycablesshowninallthefollowingdiagrams.

Somespeakersystemsareavailableonlyincertainregions.Consultyourlocaldealersfordetails.

5.UsingYourCreativeApplications

CreativeMediaSource

CreativeMediaSourceisasoftwaresuiteforcreating,playing,organizingandtransferringmusicordatafiles.2DesignedtocomplementSoundBlaster,itfeaturesEAXADVANCEDHDfortheultimatedigitalentertainmentexperience.

CreatingMP3songsfromyourmusicCDs

3WithCreativeMediaSourceOrganizer,youcaneasilycreatehighqualityMP3songsfrommusicCDsthatyouown.

(1)InsertanaudioCDintoyourcomputer’sCDROMdrive.

(2)ClickStart→Pragrams/AllPrograms→Creative→CreativeMediaSource→CreativeMediasourceOrganizer.

(3)IfyouraudioCDisnotselected,intheSourceswindow,selectyouraudioCD.

(4)4IntheTaskbar,clicktheGetInfobuttonifyouwantyourMusicInformationProvidertofindthetrackdetailsforyourCD.

(5)IntheTaskbar,clicktheRipNowbutton.

5RegisterwithyourMusicInformationProvidertoretrievediscinformationforyouraudioCDsviatheInternet.Formoreinformation,refertotheCreativeMediaSourceHelpfile.

Listeningtoaudioinmultichannelsurround

StereoMP3,WMA,CDmusic,andotherdigitalaudiomayonlyplaybackonthetwofrontspeakersinamultichannelspeakersystem.WithCreativeMultiSpeakerSurroundSound(CMSS)youcanenjoystereomusicandmoviesincaptivatingsurroundsound.6Youcan,however,chooseto“upmix”theaudiosothatitisheardfromallyoursurroundspeakers.

Toupmixaudiotoallyoursurroundspeakers:

(1)ClickStart→Pragrams/AllPrograms→Creative→SoundBlasterAudigy4→EAXConsole.

(2)ClicktheCMSS3DSurroundoptiontoenableCMSS3DSurround.

(3)SelectCMSS,CMSS2orStereoSurround.

7CMSSdeliversrich3Dvirtualsurroundsoundwithheadphonesor2speakersystem,andmultichannelaudioplaybackwith5.1,6.1or7.1speakersystems(shownasFig.15-4).

CMSS2issimilartoCMSS,butisoptimizedformoviesoundtracks.

1.AligntheaudiocardwiththePCIslotandpressthecardgentlybutfirmlyintotheslot.

·Computer-BasedTraining(CBT).Manycorporationsareturningtomultimediaapplicationstotraintheiremployees.Amajortelephonecompanyhasputtogetheramultimediaapplicationthatsimulatesmajoremergenciesandtrainstheemployeesonwhattodointhesesituations.Byusingamultimediaapplication,thecompanyfoundithassavedexpensesandtrainedemployeesmoreeffectivelythananythingelseithadtried.

·Education.Theessenceofmultimediaistomakecomputersmoreinteresting.Itdoesn’tmatterifachildisingradeschooloranadultisgettingamaster’sdegree.Doyouthinkmakingthelearningprocessmoreinterestingwillhelpthelearningprocess?Youbetitwill.Unfortunately,manyschoolknowthisisthecase,buttheylackfundstoimplementmultimediaeducationalsystems.
