AboutHisMasterpiece
TheAdventuresofHuckleberryFinn(1884),thesequeltoTomSawyer,is

communityorganization,teachers,parents,andstudentsadvocatewithintheir
districtsandschoolsforthreeactionitemsthatwould:
Makeserviceanongoingpartoftheinstructionalprogramandnotmerelya
seriesofisolatedexperiences;Integrateserviceprojectsintoacademicstudy,
especiallythecivicscurriculum,sothatstudentsexploretheunderlyingsocial
andpolicycontextofthecommunityissuestheyseektoaddressthrough
communityinvolvement;andredefineservice-learningspecifically,andcivic
educationmoregenerally,asafundamentalobjectiveofteachingandlearning
andasignificantpartofdistrictreform,agendas.
