Twaydefinestrustas"thestateofreadinessforunguardedinteractionwithsomeoneorsomething".Hedevelopedamodeloftrustthatincludesthreecomponents.Hecallstrustaconstructbecauseitis"constructed"ofthesethreecomponents:thecapacityfortrusting,theperceptionofcompetence,andtheperceptionofintentions.Thinkingabouttrustasmadeupoftheinteractionandexistenceofthesethreecomponentsmakes"trust"easiertounderstand.Thecapacityfortrustingmeansthatyourlifeexperienceshavedevelopedyourcurrentcapacityandwillingnesstorisktrustingothers.Theperceptionofcompetenceismadeupofyourperceptionofyourabilityandtheabilityofotherswithwhomyouworkinyourcurrentsituation.Theperceptionofintentions,asdefinedbyTway,isyourperceptionthattheactions,words,missions,ordecisionsaremotivatedbymutually-servingratherthanself-servingmotives.
